  1. Not for nothing, but it's a nice touch using the half-empty stadium background shot. That said, I'm looking forward to two things right now. Sweeping these fuckers in their mausoleum this weekend, and fman's series preview post.
  2. YA. GOTTA. BELIEVE. 51 wins. SHaMVP: Bruce, who gets hot and hits 18 home runs in August SHaMYoung: deGrom, who finishes with only nine wins but with a 1.34 ERA

  6. Seriously. Nobody's buying tickets to see Jose Reyes any more.

Might as well root for him to get better, find a place for him to stand in the field and to stay off of piers until trading deadline 2020. Yup. Gotta cross our fingers that he can be the lineup centerpiece he's supposed to be.
  8. The problem with trading any of our four starters is that they're almost *exactly* what we *want* back. I'd rather ride with the horses we've got. Now, if this was a contending situation and Matz, Flores, and a prospect would get us Justin Verlander, then hey, go for it. But good young pitchers with team control are what we need, no? I don't get it. And Flores is what Flores is, but there does come a point where I kind of like rooting for the guys I like. And I like Wilmer a lot and I'd like to continue rooting for him.
  9. If he gets dealt, he turns into Justin Turner II. LET HIM PLAY.

  11. Part of me wishes that we could trade bad contracts for bad contracts and that it would work out, but you know it won't.
  12. A reminder that this is, after all, *a game.* Nice.

  14. Bruce has two more years left. He's not going anywhere.
  15. Vic Sage wrote: Frazier is back on the DL today, with a pulled rib cage. They've called up Ty Kelly. When asked we the team didn't call up Jeff McNeil, he of the 1.051 OPS so far this season, our manager, Jacques Cousteau, said "one thing we have with him [McNeil] is he's purely a second baseman. Obviously (Asdrubal) Cabrera is kind of holding that down for us right now." For the record, McNeil has had a significant number of games at 3b (with some at SS and in the OF, too) throughout his career, including some games there this season, so once again JC is in over his head and talking out of his ass. Which is a difficult posture to maintain. Or you could just fucking stick Cabrera at third base. This fuckin' team, man.
  16. MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER CALLAWAY, YOU GET JOSE REYES OUT OF THE LINEUP THIS INSTANT
  17. Mets Willets Point wrote: "Mickey" is a nickname. Perhaps we should just call him "Michael" in an overly formal way to show we're distancing ourselves from him. "Michael Christopher Callaway, you get Jose Reyes OUT OF THE LINEUP THIS INSTANT!"
  18. You know, he's only barely even a 3TO guy, because he doesn't walk all that much.
  19. Nimmo's the only other player this season who'd even come close.
  20. Similar story from Deadspin a few weeks back for those who can't get past the WSJ paywall: https://deadspin.com/are-the-orioles-going-to-let-chris-davis-have-the-worst-1826667920 They just keep throwing him out there, too.
  21. ZACKH BATTLE! Zach Eflin (7-2, 2.97) vs Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.36)
  22. I can't imagine him having enough left to get major league hitters out. He's thrown 13 1/3 innings in the past two years. But I guess we'll see.
  23. I'm a sucker for anything involving the Shea neon guys.
  24. Centerfield wrote: I don't get why Mets Twitter gets a bad rap. I mean, twitter is a vehicle where you can choose what you want to follow and block out the others. No? So in the workplace example, you can literally fill your break room with only those whose voices you want to hear. Exactly. I stopped following most of those dingbats years ago. It's toxic, though, as any Twitter group can be; a bunch of assholes apparently harassed one of the female Mets fan Tweeters (Miss Met, IIRC?) a few weeks back so much that she deactivated her account for a while.
