  1. Right, but if one of our guys wins a ROY award, then they have to pay him more money. So that's a non-starter for the Wilpons.
  2. Interesting: This year, for instance, Mets hitters have seen more shifts than any team in the National League. Overall, only the Angels, Rangers and Blue Jays—also-ran teams in the American League—face more shifts. The Mets also hit more pop-ups than any team in baseball, which are killers to BABIP. I think we *know* that the composition of the lineup is weird, but those seem like telling stats.

  4. Centerfield wrote: I think you have the surgery now. It's a lost season. Position players come back earlier, and he can DH. So I'd think he can play next year. It will be 2020 until he can pitch. That's ok. Yeah, this. I was confused as to why they let him pitch Sunday, but I guess you see *now* if he can do it, and since he can't, let him get the surgery now and you'll see him DH next September and let him finish rehabbing his pitching arm over the following winter.

  7. Edgy MD wrote: Check out 2009, though. Everybody who reached the bigs, except for Matz, did it for another organization, after either not signing or crapping out with the Mets. The only one who at first glance seems to have gotten any traction was 50th-rounder Zack Godley, and he did it after getting taken the next year and signed by the Phils. And Matz, of course, has spent multiple years in the wilderness. Ceciliani came up as a Met, but didn't do anything. And has continued to do nothing since. And Haniger was an All-Star this year after being a first-round pick in 2012.

  12. PROBABLE PITCHERS, UNLESS ANYONE CLEARS WAIVERS AND GETS TRADED BEFORE THEN: Zack Wheeler NYM (9-6, 3.46) * Wheeler in SF: one start in 2013 (7 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K, win) and one in 2014 (3.2 IP, 4 R, loss) * Wheeler vs SF in 2018: one start, Aug 20, and pitched beautifully: http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=9153 vs Andrew Suarez SF (5-9, 4.42) * has not faced the Mets, but Jeff McNeil went 1-4 in a AAA game against him last season * has a 4.29 ERA in 11 starts at home * has been notably worse when pitching with a fifth day of rest
  13. Home on my birthday, on a Friday. *Now* I wish I was a quick JetBlue flight away.

David could hit .800 with 20 home runs in the next week and we still won't see him in the bigs, and this is why. Lefty Specialist wrote: I have the solution. Send Reyes to Las Vegas. Win-win. 17. Todd Frazier busts out the whooping stick with a salami and it's 4-0 good guys in the top of the first!
  18. Cubs' 26th man will be RHP James Norwood, who will probably pitch the seventh and strike out the side or something. Mets' 26th man will be RHP Jacob Rhame, who will probably be bitten by a runaway mountain lion and miss the next 10-12 months.
  19. Thankfully, we have... /checks internet ...Jason Vargas starting Game 2. Oy. I thought about trying to get a Matt Stairs card from each of his teams, but I think two of them never made it to cardboard. (Edwin Jackson and Octavio Dotel tied at 13, by the way, and Jackson's only 34, so he'll have the record alone at some point.) Just off the top of my head and without looking anything up, I'd guess that the Met who played for the most teams would be between Dotel, Todd Zeile and LaTroy Hawkins, based on those card threads I used to make. Those three always came up. 24. I get it, Ricco. Really, I do. If he plays in a major league game, then you probably don't get the insurance money that your bosses desperately need, *and* you have to clear a spot on the 40 for him. But fuckin' hell, this is the *one* thing you can do to sell a ticket to see this godawful team next month.
