I did think it was weird that they fired him after winning two straight World Series two years from now, but I never really understood the Wilpons.
  2. When you look at the numbers, he played more or less to his career numbers here. Good guy, apparently, too. So that's that. By 2023 I'll forget he was a Met, though.
  3. G-Fafif wrote: Press conference will dovetail with Mets' previously scheduled kids' holiday party. Cano and Diaz will double as Santa Nimmo's special helpers. Wilpons allegedly thrilled to be saving money by combining both events into one.

The guy looks like a douchebag, and he has douchebag hair, but I haven't seen anything or read anything that suggests he actually is a douchebag. In fact, all of the quotes I've read about him suggest that he's actually a pretty decent guy. I remember how gracious he was in 2015 after the Mets won the division. I'm ok to give him the benefit of the doubt, but understand if others don't. I mean, I get it. That hair. I always got the feeling that he is this generation's Chipper - he loves playing the villain, but does so with a wink to let us know he's in on the joke. 41Forever wrote: I don't know if he's a total DB. Some nice stories about him. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/bryce-harper-signs-baseball-for-fan-fan-is-very-happy/c-138333800 He seems to grasp this role as a star and what that means to fans. Maybe not the full Granderson, but we could sure do worse. DAMMIT CPF DON'T MAKE ME LIKE THIS GUY Edgy MD wrote: Slams his equipment, whines constantly to and baits umpires, has hurt his team with his refusal to hustle, has gotten benched for not hustling, coming back and really knocking everybody out with a few plays that show how good he can be at 100%, only to go back into low gear before the week is out, and loves to fuck with kids. Kids who are just like yours! No doubt that part of that is playing the heel. But I think a bigger part of that is clearly being a heel. Whew. That's better. Thanks, Edge.

  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Does this qualify as good news??? Edwin Diaz’s bone spur condition hasn’t been a problem yet That's because his plane hasn't landed yet in New York. By the time he gets here, I'm sure he'll have a 12-18 month injury to announce.
  7. 30 years/$45M for Wilmer. He's on the payroll in perpetuity, either as a player, coach, broadcaster, or spiritual advisor.
  8. brb going to citi field to flip some tables

  10. Yeah, that's weird. I wonder why they 'shopped him in 24. He wore 22 in Seattle.

  12. The Padres could use a third baseman. I know they want Noah, but maybe we could convince them to take Frazier and someone else? (Just make sure we get Travis Jankowski back in the deal as our fourth/fifth OF.)

  15. This list of "who's your number X" voting sort of thing would be a good off-season project, but I don't have the time or energy to organize it. I'm going to go off the top of my head too: 1 Mookie 2 Elster 3 Santana 4 Dykstra 5 Davey 6 Backman 7 Pratt 8 Carter 9 Jefferies 10 Hundley 11 Teufel 12 Darling 13 Mazzilli 14 Hodges 15 Aguilera 16 Doc 17 Mex 18 Straw 19 BobbyO 20 HoJo 21 Delgado 22 McReynolds 23 ? 24 Torve 25 Bonilla 26 Leach 27 Harnisch 28 Bill Robinson 29 Trax 30 Cliff 31 Piazza 32 Matz 33 Lyons 34 Syndergaard 35 Reed 36 ? 37 Casey 38 ? 39 Blevins 40 Seo 41 Seaver 42 McDowell 43 Dickey 44 Cone 45 Carreon 46 Perez 47 Orosco 48 Heilman 49 Niese 50 Sid 51 Rojas 52 Greg Pavlick 53 ? 54 Mark Clark 55 Hershiser 56 ? 57 Johan
  16. I'm trying to talk myself into this, because I feel like it's the kind of thing that might legitimately happen.
  17. #3 -- Find out if why they called it Mr. Met's "middle finger" if he only has four fingers.
  18. Minimum wage is $11.10. Gotta be more than that. $50K sounds about right, especially considering that's still too low.
  19. Hmm. Wikipedia wrote: In December 2013, Van Wagenen negotiated a $240 million, 10-year contract for Robinson Canó with the Seattle Mariners.
  20. I'm hacking the poll to vote for all the David Wright ones. Also, I may or may not be crying again.
  21. This confuses me, what with Alonso there and all that.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cano is 36 and there's $120 million remaining on his contract. Even if they take *all* our big contracts: Vargas: $8M Bruce: $29M Frazier: $9M Lagares: $18.5M Swarzak: $8M Nope.
  23. Halladay was, for a stretch, one of the best, if not the best, starter in baseball. I like B-R's "MVP Shares" and "Cy Young Shares" listings, because although those awards may be flawed, they do tell you something. And Halladay is 10th in all-time Cy Young Shares: 1. Roger Clemens (7 wins) 7.66 2. Randy Johnson* (5 wins) 6.50 3. Greg Maddux* (4 wins) 4.92 4. Clayton Kershaw (3 wins) 4.56 5. Steve Carlton* (4 wins) 4.29 6. Pedro Martinez* (3 wins) 4.26 7. Tom Seaver* (3 wins) 3.85 8. Max Scherzer (3 wins) 3.73 9. Jim Palmer* (3 wins) 3.57 10. Roy Halladay (2 wins) 3.50 11. Justin Verlander (1 win) 3.40 12. Tom Glavine* (2 wins) 3.15 13. Sandy Koufax* (3 wins) 3.05 I hate Clemens and didn't vote for him here because of that, but he should probably be in. Kershaw will be in some day, and Scherzer and Verlander are going to have really compelling cases too. (This list does, admittedly, fall apart a bit with multiple winners Johan Santana, Corey Kluber, and Bret Saberhagen 14th, 15th, and 17th, respectively.)
  24. Another classic moment: the time he moved the on-deck circle to where he was, rather than listen to the ump's request to move back to the circle.
  25. SteveJRogers wrote: Since this was the first I saw of the news, my thought was Wolfie was putting Beltre out there as a “why not” suggestion for third/role player. Essentially being 2019’s Adrian Gonzalez or Jose Bautista! *rolls eyes* Except I'd rather have Beltre than Gonzalez, Bautista, OR Todd Frazier, for what it's worth.
