  2. They did it several years ago (2006ish). He actually still has cards in the set, #7. Don't know why there's no card listed there this year.
  3. Topps does a lot of that, yes. Cap'n Intangibles is card 2, Trout is 27, Felix is 34. Full list: http://sportscardradio.com/index.php/product-previews-a-reviews/1387-2013-topps-series-1-baseball-checklist
  4. 2013 Topps checklist is out (cards should hit in the next week or two), and... dammit, Topps. Jason Bay? Really? Fuckin' hell. 21 Lucas Duda - Mets 43 R.A. Dickey - Mets 60 Jon Rauch - Mets 81 Kershaw - Cueto - R.A. Dickey 89 Johan Santana - Mets 109 Kirk Nieuwenhuis - Mets 129 Ike Davis - Mets 139 Bobby Parnell - Mets 144 Jason Bay - Mets 156 Dillon Gee - Mets 250 Jonathon Niese - Mets 271 Jeurys Familia - Mets 300 Daniel Murphy - Mets 312 Scott Hairston - Mets 1972-style minis among the inserts this year, but Dickey is the only Met listed on the checklist for Series 1.
  5. I know a guy who can help too. Haven't heard from him in a while, so he must be on vacation somewhere, but he's trustworthy. He'll get back to you soon. Bernard Madoff. Just look him up.
  6. I really, really need to do this someday.
  7. Check your urbandictionary. (I didn't know it until the discussion afterward either, and the Mets have deleted the tweet.)

  9. I remember that thread. Still have my card.
  10. Does he make the bullpen better? I say yes. Maybe not $9 million a year yes, but yes.
  11. If I ever do finish this autograph collection, I'd bet Marshall's going to be the last one I get. I just can't justify ponying up that kind of cash.
  12. Tough break for the other four "foreign film" nominees.

  14. Edgy MD wrote: My ten for next year, as of right now: Bonds, Maddux, Bagwell, Piazza, Thomas, Biggio, Raines, McGwire, Clemens, and... Trammell, I guess? I'm not sure on my tenth. But I'm fully in on the Steroids Three now. Steroids Three? I guess you mean Bonds, Clemens, and McGwire. But where does that leave Sosa and Palmiero? Each has a career that's pretty superlative if that question gets shelved. Possibly re-opens a door for Canseco too, if fully in is fully in. Are you knocking off 20% (or so) for known juicers, which keeps those three over the line, but not the others? (I think this is a legit approach, by the way.) I'm going to have to come around on Sosa too, probably, but Palmeiro doesn't cross the "best players of his generation" line for me. He never really led the league in anything, wasn't a perennial all-star. He stayed healthy, played a lot of games, hit a lot of home runs, but other than that, was never a superstar.

  17. Edgy MD wrote: A story that'll get overlooked: Kenny Lofton is one and done. More importantly, so is Bernie Williams. And there are a lot of outfielders who are more hallworthy than Lofton. Hell, maybe even Bernie Williams, and he isn't hallworthy either.
  18. Great movie. Simple story, great songs, funny horse. Really well done.
  19. Then I want them all to turn in the money they earned from every commentary they wrote about the McGwire/Sosa home run chase, and Roger Clemens being a World Series hero in Toronto, and about Mike Piazza's 9/21 home run. The more I hear these writers bitch about the steroid era, the more I want Barry Bonds in.
  20. Valadius wrote: This is shaping up to be the nightmare I've long thought might come. What a mess. It totally is. You could induct twelve people out of this group, and they're going to get nobody because a bunch of sportswriters have bugs up their asses.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Interestingly, nobody seems to have sniffed at Kelly Shoppach. He's a fat guy who wears catchers' gear. Can't imagine he smells all that good.
  22. Wait, what? But at this point, the club that occasionally drains its roster of proven players has let it be known that it would consider dealing the Dave Kingman of his time. Stanton has 373 big league games on his resume and has demonstrated more offensive skill than Kingman ever did.
  23. 1996, if this list is right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_members_of_the_Baseball_Hall_of_Fame Jim Bunning, Bill Foster, Ned Hanlon, and Earl Weaver, all VC guys. No BBWAA guys.
  24. That 3000-hit list is really interesting. Also, "ballot" is a word that looks funny when you see it print too many times.
  25. Is that the complete list of 2012? Then I missed a few. Saw Magadascar 3, Star Wars 3D, Pirates! Band of Misfits, and the indescribably awful Casa De Mi Padre. And add Sasha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator" to my "want to see" list, as part of it was filmed out here.
