  1. Ready for 2013? We've got Seawolves on the field: * in the majors -- Joe Nathan * at AAA -- Tom Koehler, starting tomorrow on Opening Day for New Orleans (MIA) * at AA -- Nick Tropeano, starting tomorrow on Opening Day for Corpus Christi (HOU) * at high A -- Travis Jankowski in Lake Elsinore (SD), Pat Cantwell in Myrtle Beach (TEX), James Campbell in Rancho Cucamonga (LAD) * at low A -- Maxx Tissenbaum in Fort Wayne (SD), William Carmona in Lakewood, NJ (PHI) And two more guys, Tyler Johnson (OAK) and Jasvir Rakkar (CHC) who will probably find themselves in short-season ball.

  3. But Bonilla's only like a million-plus a year, so the "highest paid outfielder" thing won't last for long.

  6. It gives you the option after you select "hitter" or "pitcher."
  7. http://www.highheatstats.com/player-stats-quiz/ Stumbled across this game today, and it's neat. It gives you a random player -- stats, bio/demo info -- but no name, and you have to identify the player. I set the parameters to "all players 1980-present" and it's HARD AS HELL. Resetting it to "batters with at least 1000 PAs 1980-present."
  8. That picture is from while Opening Day was still going on?!?! That's incredible.
  9. Some web site posted one of these all-time fictional rosters a few weeks back that was pretty solid.
  10. I'm fully prepared to admit I was wrong on Marlon Byrd.
  11. Two creepy sun baby appearances in the same thread. We were really starved for baseball.
  12. And the ninth and tenth shortstops taken, too. (Boy, that's a lotta shortstops.)
  13. "Major League 2"? "The Naked Gun"? "For The Love of the Game"? "Baseketball"? Bernie Mac's "Mr. 3000"?
  14. Echo Zvon's thoughts (echoing Ceetar and Fman).

  17. I really liked Tim on Mets games as a kid, and I really enjoyed his "Baseball For Brain Surgeons" book. Not so much anymore, though.
  18. It's not a Rule V situation. Any team can soon claim them and stash them in the minors. The problem is that we need to make room for LaTroy Hawkins to give up home runs, so Reese Havens can make the All-Star Team six times in ten years as the future starting second baseman for the Orioles. Frig.

  20. I'd honestly bet that not too many franchises can field a much better team, especially any of the other ones who predate free agency. A quick glance, for example, at the OnlyPadres career HR leaders, not counting 2012 players: Tony Gwynn 135 Edgar Gonzalez (2008-09) 11 Tim Flannery 9 Dave Staton (1993-94) 9 Dave Hilton (1972-75) 6 The OnlyPadres career IP leaders, not counting 2012 players: Mike Corkins (1969-74) 459 1/3 Brian Tollberg (2000-03) 307 1/3 Joe McIntosh (1974-75) 220 1/3 Rich Troedson (1973-74) 171 Floyd Chiffer (1982-84) 130 So let's not beat ourselves up too much.
  21. So when Pelf becomes a Twin, the best all-time only-Met RHSP from the team that brought you Seaver and Doc... is Bob Myrick.
  22. Martin Lawrence's "College Road Trip," too.

  24. 88-74 second place WC world series champs YA. GOTTA. BELIEVE.
