I love Harv but he just doesn't strike me as the type to be happy in Queens. He's a money guy. Boras will, as Boras does, encourage him toward the biggest contract and we all know that it won't be the one the Mets are offering. He'll wind up in Anaheim or Texas. I think this too. I can't get worked up over this; it's Boras doing his job. If Harvey pitches 200 innings and stays healthy, then nothing comes of it; if he gets hurt, then Boras can say "I told you so," which endears him to his clients, which is all he cares about.
  3. LET'S CRUSH THIS FUCKIN GUY (Or, better, let him pitch five or six scoreless innings, maybe with two or three hits allowed and a handful of Ks and then LET'S CRUSH THIS FUCKIN GUY'S BULLPEN)
  4. The only ones I remember are Marlon's and Kaz's.

Then in the NLCS and World Series, those three will win the first three games and Colon can start game 4 for those sweeps. Very simple. I'm all in with this plan.
  6. Gwreck wrote: One still-unaddressed question is how many relievers the Mets choose to carry in the postseason. Having only 4 starters seems clear but do you want 6 or 7 relievers behind them? The lock position players (14) will be D'Arnaud, Backup Catcher, Duda, Flores, Johnson, Murphy, Tejada, Uribe, Wright, Cespedes, Conforto, Cuddyer, Granderson, Lagares. There would seemingly be room for 1 additional position player (my guess is a tossup between Eric Young Jr. and Nieuwenhuis) if the Mets only go with 6 relievers. Gwreck wrote: The problem with that argument is that if "games get out of hand" with any regularity it's not going to matter very much about the bullpen being stressed because they won't be winning the series in that case. I could see an argument that a roster of deGrom-Harvey-Syndergaard-Niese and bullpen of Familia-Clippard-Reed-Gilmartin-Matz-Colon is a little short and could use one more (ie. Robles). I don't see a circumstance in which any more than 11 total pitchers are required. I agree on an eleven-man staff, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went with 12 because That's What You're Supposed To Do These Days. I don't see Addison Reed as anywhere near a lock yet. He's a spare part right now, although he looked good last night.

Lefty Specialist wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Okay, the Mets were down 6-0, and Terry probably had Parnell warming up because a game with a six-run deficit is a realistic time to give him an inning to see what he can do. But when the Mets scored four runs, Terry should have shifted gears. It's now a two-run game, and momentum is in the Mets favor, but Terry brings in a pitcher who had a 7.71 ERA in August. When that doesn't work out, he substitutes a pitcher who had a 12.86 ERA in August. The third pitcher of the inning is a guy who had a 5.91 ERA in August. He was managing that inning like a guy who had money on the Phillies. Well, it's a good point. Garbage time is when you should get Parnell up, and they were looking at 4 innings to fill. But he should have shifted. One thing I've always noticed is that Terry doesn't like not bringing players in after they've warmed up for a while. That's the last we'll see of Bobby P in any kind of leveraged situation, methinks. Agree. Gary made the point last night that the organization wants Parnell to succeed -- duh -- but he looked lost out there. He was so visibly frustrated after the second walk, you had to get him out of there. Stall if you have to, have Warthen walk slowly, whatever -- but you knew he was toast.
  8. We were talking about this at the bus stop this morning. I think you have to go Harvey-deGrom-Thor-Colon in the rotation, consider Matz your fifth starter/long guy, and use the Familia/Clippard/Gilmartin/Torres/Verrett/Robles as your pen. Start Colon and Syndergaard at Citi Field in whatever combination you want. The question mark is Niese.
  9. Centerfield wrote: 8-5 is your final. 8-5 was your final last night. Both soul-crushing types of losses. Remind me, what was the final score of game 7 in 1986? You know what's funny... I was thinking about 1986 watching the game the other night where the Sox scored two in the top of the tenth to make it 5-3. I thought, "hey, this looks familiar." (Then they scored a sixth run and my whole plan went to crap.)
  10. G-Fafif wrote: Thanks for nuttin, Tom Kola. Yeah, he's been seriously terrible lately. 0-7, 6.81 in his last seven starts.
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: I never had a problem with Chipper. He was an honest competitor and wasn't a jerk about it, he just went out there and beat them, repeatedly. He reveled in the 'Larrrrrrry' calls he was serenaded with. And hey, with the Braves falling off the planet, he's got to root for SOMEBODY. This. I have great respect for Chipper; he damn well earned every boo we gave him, but he was never obnoxious, never rude, and in retirement, has been a great dude. I'm all in on Larry.
  12. There aren't any Mets logos on it. The hat is a Cyclones hat.
  13. Because they're probably lovingly hand-crafted and they don't want to break their shirtmakers.
  14. Centerfield wrote: Just got tickets for tomorrow night. Wanted to see the Captain's triumphant return. We will also be representing Mets fans September 6 in Miami. I haven't bought my tickets yet. Yikes, I hope that game is not sold out. They're probably walking around downtown Miami handing out tickets wrapped with Cuban sandwiches just to get people into the park.
  15. YOU WILL ROOT FOR HIM AND YOU WILL ALL LIKE IT /buys two dozen Marlins 34 KOEHLER shirts /mails them to everyone here
  16. Good times last night in Brooklyn, despite the home team getting whomped 4-0. Last night's giveaway: MFS62 wrote: Mathieu and Kaupe standing next to each other reminds you that people of all sizes can play baseball. As noted above, Mathieu is 6'7" while Kaupe looks to be 5'3". Mathieu is ENORMOUS in person, even standing next to normal-sized people.
  17. Finally, Saturday night, you can all root for Tom Koehler with me.
  18. Yeah, took an ohfer last night against Strasburg, but had a very productive first three games. Tom Koehler, on the other hand, has completely spit the bit. 0-6, 6.68 in his last six starts.
  19. That was SO much fun last night. Best part was Ronnie calling Cespedes's homer.
  20. That many boxes, yes, that's certainly strange collation. But I haven't heard about anything being short-printed other than the official SPs, so it literally might just be back luck.
  21. SPs are in retail too as far as I know, and no, none of the base cards are short-printed. You might have just gotten bum collation, which happens.
  22. Hey, if they need a pinch-runner in a big spot in September, now they've got one.
