  1. Travis Jankowski is coming up! Our first non-pitcher in the bigs.

I went to Marlins Park last week for the entire three-game Mets/Marlins series. It was a weird experience for me, too. First of all, I doubt that even half the seats were occupied. That team just doesn't draw, even though their stadium's brand new and the Marlins have two of baseball's most exciting young stars. The third of three decks was apparently closed off entirely. This reminded me of the lean Joe Torre - two button pullover jersey era when the Upper Deck at Shea was closed off. And then the crowds ... they were Met crowds -- I mean more than half of the attendees were Mets fans, in Mets garb and rooting for the Mets. And I'm not exaggerating this post by even a pixel. Marlins park is a very strange place, yes. Went to a game earlier this season (the Ichiro HR off Torres game) and that was very Mets fan-heavy, and then went to Marlins-Phillies two nights later and that was Phillies fan-heavy.
  3. And from all accounts, a GREAT clubhouse dude: https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/the-likable-unlikely-career-of-juan-uribe These days, Uribe's listed weight is 235 pounds, 60 pounds more than it was his rookie year. It's easy to think of him as a kind of jolly, round baseball jesterTommy Lasorda if he was an active player and Dominican. He walks into the Dodgers clubhouse every day with a cigar in his mouth. He wears fancy patterned sweatpants and custom baseball hats that say "Papi" on them. Once, he was sued by a former landlord for lighting an apartment on fire when he decided to fry some fish in the middle of the night. He has been a victim of the hidden ball trick. But in his Cy Young acceptance speech this past offseason, Clayton KershawUribe's exact opposite culturally, stylistically, and personality wisesingled out the third baseman. "Thank you for making me laugh," Kershaw said. "You are one of the most important people in our clubhouse." Until we acquired him, I conflated him with Jose Uribe (his second cousin, as per the article above), who I conflated with Jose Gonzalez, who I conflated with Julio Gonzalez. So in my head, sort of, Juan Uribe has been around since I was a kid.

  5. I was struck by this too. The previous best was 11-0 for the home teams, and that was in 1989.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: We're already there. The Mets have already gone 14 years without appearing in a World Series. (2001 through 2014). The previous high was 13. (1987 through 1999) Before that it was 12 years. (1974 through 1985). If this pattern holds, the Mets will win the pennant in 2015 but that will be followed by a 15-year drought, ending with a pennant in 2031. I'm so starved for anything, I'd almost sign up for that. Almost.
  7. We'll be there tonight; ostensibly section 520something, but we'll see where we wind up.
  8. Yeah, that sucks. Usually the variation (if there is one) is stuck in the middle of the packs with the inserts, so you know it's something different even if it's not apparent at first glance. I usually use the code in fine print at the bottom of the back side to see if it's a variation.
  9. That's odd collation. You might want to eyeball that and make sure one of those isn't a variation. http://www.cardboardconnection.com/2015-topps-series-2-baseball-variations
  10. Article seems to think that both teams won, financially, somehow. http://fueledbysports.com/braves-acquire-nick-swisher-michael-bourn-for-chris-johnson/ "This looks like a great trade for both sides, with the Braves ridding themselves of the awful Johnson contract and they will have money to spend going into 2017. For Cleveland it rids them of the Swisher and Bourn and will allow them to go out and spend on some free agents this offseason." So the Indians get money of the books this year, the Braves get money off the books after NEXT year.
  11. Majors: Nathan (Detroit): Injured; TJ surgery, will miss the year. Could be the end of the road. Koehler (Miami): 2015 vs Mets: 0-2, 14.73 in 11 IP. 2015 vs other teams: 8-6, 2.61. Minors: Tropeano (AAA Angels): Made a second spot start for the Angels: now 1-1, 3.00 in 12 innings. Back in AAA. Jankowski (AAA San Diego): KILLING IT IN AAA. .442/.500/.558 in 60 PA. 2016 NL Rookie of the Year. Cantwell (AA Texas): .182/.246/.260. Struggling offensively, but playing every day. Tissenbaum (A+ Tampa): Catching, mostly, but pitched to one batter (a flyout to LF) on July 31: Rakkar (A+ Chicago): 2.31 ERA, 13 saves. Won a gold medal at the Pan Am Games with Canada. McNitt (A Houston): 1-3, 5.40 in 8 starts. Just came back from injury and looks like he's in the pen. Campbell (A LA Dodgers): 2.81 ERA with 3 saves in 16 innings. Krause (A Pittsburgh): Still on the 7-day DL, but I can't figure out why. MacEachern (A- Miami): Killing it in Batavia; 15 K/4 BB in 9.1 IP. Zamora (A- Pittsburgh): 9 K/1 BB in 8 IP.
  12. I CAN HEAR YOU YOU KNOW
  13. I tweeted last night that the Mets needed to have racks of FLORES 4 shirts up and down the concourses; they'd sell thousands right now.
  14. He has to replace Campbell on the roster, no?
  15. I'm just tired of staring at my Tweetdeck.
  16. I don't even care any more. Cespedes for Harvey, Niese, Matz, and the desiccated corpse of Mets' fans hopes and dreams.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm surprised no one has brought up the most Mets-ian scenario of them all: We trade for Justin Upton but wind up missing out on the post-season by one game ... yesterday's game. No, the most Mets-ian scenario is that PLUS the Mets needing the Diamondbacks to win on the last game of the season but Carlos Gomez, Astro, makes a game-saving catch.
  18. Dan Haren to the Cubs. Your new Marlins ace: Tom Koehler. (I know, Jose Fernandez. Just let me pretend.)
  19. I'm okay with Bruce. He's basically Lucas Duda without the walks, but he certainly gives us more than Cuddyer/Kirk does.
  20. I'm really torn between WHY CAN'T THIS TEAM DO ONE FRICKING THING RIGHT FOR ONCE and WHY ARE WE SO FRICKING DEMANDING IT'S JUST A BASEBALL TEAM.
  21. Carlos Gomez would have gotten that third out before the rain.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Howie just said "Ruh-Roh." Hi, Howie! It's okay if you make an account and post once in a while. I swear we'll be super cool about it.
  23. Ceetar wrote: LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Hey, they're doing that Orosco-on-his-knees bobble head idea we talked about before! and did you see who they're playing? I really want to go to that game; I'd love one of those. Anyone here get tickets and have an extra?
  24. Bleh on Rajai Davis.
  25. "We'll be getting Michael Cuddyer back, and that's like adding a superstar in trade. He got a ball through the infield MORE THAN ONCE already this season, and it's only July."
