Pat, a centerfielder, most recently went .277 / .333 / .356 // .689 for former Mets South Atlantic affiliate Savannah Sand Gnats. Everybody's Buddy on for the save. If you'd said "Pat Biondi of the Mets," I would have thought of an early-90s Mets minor league outfielder, and I don't know who I'm conflating him with.
  2. Kid's 13 or 14, IIRC. Either way, the White Sox are right that he shouldn't be in the clubhouse all the time, and if LaRoche doesn't like that rule, then he's perfectly within his rights to look elsewhere for employment. I wish him the best.

Plus, I mean, go to a real school. It's not that I was rooting *for* him, per se. It's that I was rooting for him for like eight innings. And then we beat his pen. Worked like a charm.

  6. The Dykstra/McDowell/Samuel Phillies trade.
  7. Yankees. The Armando Benitez trade.
  8. I literally don't know how anyone is surprised by this. All my MFY fan friends are like NO NOT PAULIE THE HORROR. Are you a rich white guy? Then you're probably a Trump fan.
  9. Yes, there is a Mets one. They're a preview for an "MLB Wacky Packages" set that's coming out later this spring, which is why it's small.
  10. It's a small subset -- six cards. Got the Royals one if you want it. The Bautista is excellent. The photography is very good this year.

  12. Fman99 wrote: First broadcast is Friday, March 4th. "Let's meet on Friday afternoon to go over the details." "Yeah, um... I kinda have a thing."
  13. Strikes out the side in the seventh on Opening Day, then trips down the dugout steps and misses two months. Spends two weeks on a rehab assignment, then cuts his finger opening the bullpen door before his first game back and misses the rest of the season.
  14. G-Fafif wrote: Calling something the Chase Utley Rule implies a player must be a total dick. Yeah, that makes it sound like an honor. It should be the Chase Utley Is A Jerk Rule.

  16. 1. You are driving a: 1999 Toyota Corolla with 190,000 miles on it 2. You are wearing: a gold Versace ball gown 3. And of course, the shoes are: five inch strappy heels, but with those blinky sneaker lights that the kids wear 4. As you get closer, reporters can hear "Vanis Takee" blasting from your speakers. 5. Pulling in, they look in your passenger seat and see: a half-eaten "Matz" sub from the Se-Port deli 6. You turn off your engine, get out, and say: "Here are the keys, Cerrone. Make sure you don't forget the wax this time."

  18. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: In the 1990s, my mission was to get one of every Mets card, which was actually possible then. I've recently re-started making progress on my autographed card collection. I have to update my list, but I'm around 700 right now, with another 50 or so "related" autos as well. These guys who keep dying aren't making it any easier.
  19. Now THAT'S how you roll. Well done, Yo.
  20. Almost made Akeel Morris look good.

Phillips: 50.8 WAR Other ASG-era guys who never made it I could find quickly: Tim Salmon 40.5 Eric Chavez 37.4 Garry Maddox 36.7 (edit: if you want to include pitchers, Tom Candiotti was at 41.5) Active leader is Shin-Soo Choo at 29.2.
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Highest lifetime WAR for a player never selected to an MLB all-star game. That's a fascinating stat. He had a fantastic career; always really good, never great. His 162-game averages are most players' wet dreams: .266/.374/.389, 12 HR, 112 K/99 BB, 13 SB.
  23. I was really disappointed late in the season when he just had nothing. He looked defeated every time he was out there.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: He came out of a small school (Charleston Southern, 3,600 students) where he was as skinny as a rail, swung between the pen and starting, and put up an 8.86 ERA his last year there, and got nonetheless taken in the ninth round by a Mets team that saw something. #scouting That's my lingering memory; he was drafted despite awful stats, and became a solid part of our bullpen for years.
