  2. Yes, it's a physical card. Part of their daily "Topps Now" series. One day printings: http://www.topps.com/collectibles/trading-cards/topps-now-featured/bartolo-colon-2016-topps-now-card-57-available-until-1-pm-on-5-9-16.html
  3. Zvon wrote: Damn. Duda rips one but some pesky Padre fielder tracks it down. Hey. I know that fielder.
  4. No, I'd bet they go HOUSTON. They've really done a good job of staying true to the originals:
  5. That'd be instead: Buster Posey SFG .318 Joey Votto CIN .314 Odubel Herrera PHI .297
  6. HEY WISLER I PAINTED YOUR MOTHER LAST NIGHT
  7. MGIM's right on the licensing. It's just Topps for "official" MLB products; the rest all have licenses with MLBPA. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: My beef is the Bowman sets. I subscribe -- if that's the right word -- to a store in Iowa that builds team sets and sends them out every couple of months. It seems like year in and year out, the Bowman sets are awful. And it seems like there are three or four variations of the sets -- a Chrome version, and so on. Zvon wrote: I'm not a fan of all the special versions and all that. It makes the hobby into something that it shouldn't be. I still kinda dig it when I get one though. That's just it. Collect what you want and just pretend the other stuff doesn't exist. I find that pulling the parallels and short prints I don't want give me ammunition for trades and/or eBay sales to get the things I do want, though. G-Fafif wrote: A friend suggested perhaps teams that didn't exist in the years that are being replicated should have simply been left out until they were born. Probably wouldn't have gone over, but that's pretty damn authentic. Edgy MD wrote: That's problematic territory. Retrofit cards challenge us to accept (and often delight in) hairstyles, positions, ethinicities (at least at the big league level), and more that didn't exist in the time of the publication of the original set. The whole enterprise is a big exercise of what-if. It forces the artists and the collectors to adapt, and that's most of the fun, isn't it? Topps has largely done very well with the Heritage sets -- replicating errors, card numbering parallels, etc -- although for some reason, they can never quite get some of it exactly correct. It's nitpicky, but if you're going to go through the exercise of making the set, spend the extra time to make sure the fonts are right.

  9. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I bought a bunch of Topps Opening Day packs, and was happily surprised to see Matt Reynolds get a card. I can't think of too many times the Mets have had a guy get a card before ever appearing in a game. Maybe one of those cards with multiple players. But Matt gets a card to himself. I love Opening Day for the mascot inserts.
  10. If we celebrate every time the Braves lose this season, we're going to run out of bandwidth by August.
  11. HahnSolo wrote: Big loss. How did I get this far into his career without knowing he was Tom Gordon's kid? Especially considering they're practically twins.
  12. Guess it's just us and the Nats this year. I'm okay with that.
  13. All new for 2016! Majors: Nathan (free agent): Retired? Maybe. Met him last week at our annual gala, where we honored him for his donations. Koehler (Miami): 2-2, 4.50 in four starts. 20. Edgy MD wrote: HOLY SHIT THEY STILL HAVE ICHIRO. He's now 94 years old, in great shape, 65 hits short of 3,000, and hit his lone home run last year off of the Mets' Álex Torres. Marlins Who Compromise Seawolf's Rooting Interests Tom Koehler remains in the service of the South Floridians, but isn't scheduled to go this series. I was at that game in Miami. Sucked. I love when we miss TK. Win-win.
  21. I feel like Heritage juuuuust misses the design every year, which is always bizarre to me. That said, no, I don't know that there's any benefit to keeping this sealed.
  22. During 2016 World Series parade: "Man, remember that Harvey thing right before Opening Day? Goodness, that was a whole lot of trouble over nothing."
