  1. The joy (?) of only hitting a handful of games every year is that I have either the ticket stub or my scorebook record for most of them. Finally got around to plugging them all into the newly-retooled Sports Passport this morning: Thoughts: * The best hitting performance I've seen was a Jim Thome 2-HR game at Comiskey in 2009; second was Mike Piazza's 2-HR game in 4/9/01. * The best pitching performance I've seen was El Sid in the Dave Palmer/Strawberry fight game in 1986; second was Julio Teheran's one-hitter this past June. * I've seen 23 of 30 MLB teams: missing Detroit, Cleveland, the Angels, Oakland, Minnesota, Tampa, & Texas. * The minor league database only goes back to 2012, which is too bad, because I have a TON of Rochester Red Wings games from the 1997 and 1998 seasons that I'd put in there. * I also need to go back through my notes and figure out what basketball games I've been to since I got to Stony Brook, because they've got our conference in there. Join me, won't you: http://sportspassport.com/join/cdorso
  2. Putting aside that Klap is a moron, I don't like the idea at all. At some point, he's going to need to get fired, and then that ruins everything. Pass.

There is a clause that allows players dealt in the middle of a multi-year FA deal to demand a trade elsewhere but Bruce's deal w/Cincy wasn't a FA deal so I don't believe he qualifies. There's always the chance he may Get traded this winter, but it won't be because he forced it. My understanding is that the rule is if you're traded in the *first* year of a multi-year deal, then you can demand something. But I'd think he'll be back.

I think outside of us, he has a couple of big fat *'s next to his name for potential suitors. Like last off-season, if someone wants to pay him for a 6-7 year deal at big-big $$'s I'm willing to say god bless and offer a friendly sayonara to the big guy! I don't think that's gonna happen and he'll be a Met next year again. How that happens exactly we'll just have to see. All of this, yes. He'll be back.
  5. Rangers > Jays > Indians > Giant Meteor > Cubs, I guess? > Giants > Sox > Dodgers > Nats
  6. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I thought for sure he was going to throw a no-hitter last night. He looked that dominant. I was actually glad he gave up that first hit, because I hadn't moved in three innings and my legs were starting to cramp.
  7. Campbell has proven himself to be mostly worthless, offensively. Giving him a crucial AB late in a game like that was a terrible idea.
  8. Centerfield wrote: Whatever else you do, just bring back Ces. Yes, definitely.
  9. I was okay with taking Thor out when they did. He could have gone a second inning from Reed, I suppose, but then if Reed coughs it up in the ninth it's Britton II -- except there's no save situation to save Familia for, so you might as well use your big guns while you can. Familia just wasn't himself out there; he was missing all over the place. I think it was Fman who said it a few pages back -- it was Aiming Familia, not Throwing Familia. Regardless, he was the right guy to have out there in that spot.
  10. Davey/Lou/Schuerholz/Selig. I'm a "big Hall" guy.
  11. bmfc1 wrote: A tin can would have been a better umpire than Mike Winters. He goes into the grouping with CB Bucknor, Angel Hernandez and Adam Hamari. Yep. Hire the robo umps for 2017 NOW, Manfred.
  12. I'm satisfied. Could it have been better? Absolutely, but if you told us in April that TJ Rivera would be starting the last game of the season and our rotation included Gsellman and Lugo, we would have thought we were finishing in fourth place. So let's retool and do it again next year.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: For the sake of this poll, let's assume that if the Mets lose, it will be a conventional loss, and not some gut-wrenching heartbreaker. WHY DID YOU JINX IT BEN
  14. Good IGT, kids. We'll get 'em next year.
  15. "Hey, Senators. Give us Gil Hodges, and we'll give you this mint PSA 9 Tom Seaver rookie card." "DEAL!"
  16. Anyone who picks Campbell gets a kick in the nuts. Duda, I guess.
  17. Yes, but it was his first time managing the METS, so his other jobs don't matter.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I voted Indians. I like that they're one of the old-school franchises and that the Mets haven't played them in a World Series. This has nothing to do with the players, or how they'd match up with the Mets. I have no idea. I don't think I can name a single Cleveland Indian.
  19. Bill Pulsipher's son will be pitching for Stony Brook:
  20. Edgy MD wrote: Let me tell you about Hershiser. He pitched his arm off in 1988, and he was never the same again. Maybe the bottom line doesn't endorse him, but it's a shame his bold sacrifice got Tommy Lasorda in the Hall of Fame but leaves him on the outside. LaSorda is in the Hall just for his Kingman speech.
  21. Texas. Good friend of mine in Abilene and we've agreed to make it to a game one way or another.
  22. Gwreck wrote: Umpires: HP - Mike Winters Winters has never worked a Thor start. Bumgarner has a 3.57 ERA with Winters, in 22 2/3 innings. 20 hits, 8 walks, 25 strikeouts. Batters hitting .244/.319/.390 with that combo. link: http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/split_stats.cgi?full=1&params=ump%7CMike%20Winters%7Cbumgama01%7Cpitch%7CIP%7C
  23. Yeah, fifty bucks is about forty bucks too much for that set, unfortunately. Sorry, Topps.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: They ran the bases like crazy on Syndergaard earlier this year. This was probably my biggest concern. However, in the two games against the Giants -- they stole four bases on Plawecki in May, but were 0-for-2 against Rivera in August.
  25. Stolen Bases: Reyes 9 Boy oh boy, if I could go back in time to April and wager on that. Walks: Verrett, Syndergaard 43 And that seems exceptionally low -- and sure enough, our 439 team walks was the best in the majors (tied with the Giants, interestingly enough). Wonder what the MLB record is for least walks in a season for an entire staff.
