  1. Sorry, he wasn't on CF's list. He got 7.88 , better than many of the others on that list. Later
  2. Me, too. I'd have to flip a coin on that one. Later
  3. So, let's see who WAS the 2025 dark horse Met, using the only official international standard Metly measure, 2025 Schaefer points: 1. MMM: Griffin Canning 22.89 2. irish: Justin Hagenman 6.03 3. BG: Jared Young 5.81 4. MFS62: Huascar Brazoban 27.26 5. Gwreck: Luke Ritter wait till next year 6. doctee: Paul Blackburn 3.98 7. 4. Thanks, Kase. I should have recognized that. Funny that he used 32, because at ages 32 -34, Ted Williams was in military service. But when he returned: age 35 .345/.513/.635 age 36 .356/.496/.703 age 37 .345/.479/.605 and at ages 39 AND 39 he led the league in batting. I'm not saying Alonso will do the same. But every player is different. And CF gave examples of other older players who were productive in his post. Later
  5. What are those numbers? Because if that's the average OPS after they turned 32 , that ain't bad. Later
  6. That's not what I meant. Certainly not an organizational philosophy, but an occasional approach based on the GM. George Weiss certainly did. And I think Stearns does it, too. Conversely, Frank Cashen meticulously built a minor league organization(down to procedure manuals describing what a player does in a situation for all levels of the organization) to provide a pipeline of talent. He acquired players based on ability and potential (e.g.- Hojo) rather than big names. Looking back, the only "Big name" he acquired was Keith. And he shed Kingman and Foster. Later
  7. For a second I had panic attack. I thought you meant Chris Suero -my 21 year old "Swiss Army Knife*" homey** who played at several minor league levels for the Mets this year. He's a keeper, and rising on the prospect lists. Later *= catcher, outfield and pitcher **= from Da' Bronx
  8. They prefer "name" players to kids. They've been doing it since the 1962 team. They thought it was a way to win quickly and draw fans to a new team. It is a tactical approach rather than strategically building for the future. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Later
  9. On Mets internet page (SNY, Metsmerized?) is saying Edgardo Alfonso would like to join the Mets coaching staff. Later
  10. Did you intend to start a new thread about 2 Guns and hit reply instead? This doesn't belong in the October Sky thread. And when you're done correcting that, you can answer Edgy's question. Later
  11. Manny For hitting coach? Maybe. (Steve Cohen has a positive comment.) Warning - lots of pop-ups https://fanrecap.com/new-york-mets/red-sox-legend-linked-to-mets-after-coaching-shakeup--5Drf8?utm_source=new-york-mets&utm_medium=SS&utm_campaign=mlb-mk&utm_content=1570980989853817&fbclid=IwY2xjawNOTZhleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFIaGNSblM0TXFFSkhPVG54AR7a1Pv__4Vcq4ht7WnP9niyZykQ576qB6Zs1kSdLf-NaYDGVwWhUzMQeB9hHQ_aem_FyXJaSXpXPjaULpo8TiVbQ Bring my homie home! 12. In corporate America, managers are told it would be easier to promote them if they have at least two people under them who are capable of moving up into their position. In baseball, having someone who can move up to replace you makes it easier to replace you when you are asked to leave. Later
  13. I think that since they're keeping Mendoza, they should bring in coaches who complement his laid back style, not copy it. They need a couple of gung-ho types just to reignite the spirit that it seemed to me they were missing this year. But that's just me. Later
  14. You got your wish. Later
  15. I find managers fall into three main categories: Good tacticians - They make the moves that work and are successful Good people persons - the kumbaya types who the players (say they) love Martinets - the "my way or the highway" types who have a doghouse that is always full. But sometimes, the public image of a manager who falls into each of those categories may be a misperception of how they really are. In any event, all three tyles have been successful and all three types have failed. And you can't predict which type is best for a given team. Then again, what do I know? Later
  16. Doc, I'll differ with you on that one. (I guess that's what this thread is for) 1. Jimmy Piersall - who was actually diagnosed with mental illness 2. Carl Everett - a wackaloon of the highest order, but I'm not sure he ever was formally diagnosed or treated. Later
  17. I'm into the next level - anticipation. I can't wait for the start of the Arizona Fall League season. There's one Mets player I'm very interested in following. Later
  18. You have to watch out for that cabbage. It makes us do strange and unpredictable things. LOL! Later
  19. Rocco Baldelli fired by the Twins. Later
  20. Alonso? Later
  21. My [CROSSOUT]crystal ball [/CROSSOUT]projection tool says Freddie F'n Freeman WILL reach 500 home runs, and the last 50 will all be against the Mets. Later
  22. Bad Lieutenant The Piano and ? Later
  23. Get out the chain saw and cut that trophy in half. Doc Tee predicted 84 wins and I had 82. Doc, do you want the left half or the right half? Later
  24. Gornicht helfen. Later
  25. Huh? Refresh my memory on that one. Later
