    I'm attributing at least part of his last season's decline to the fact that he fractured his foot during the season. I think his numbers will improve and not continue the decline. Later

    With the increasing volume of statistical measures we have to remember that ballplayers are human. Nobody can predict what impact an apparently "minor" change can have. I think it was Dick Stuart who had his uniforms tapered because, "I hit better when I know I look bitchin' out there". So when you're dealing with the impact a dynamic presence like Iglesias was, you may be right. Letting him go may be the reason his own performance declined as well as spirit in the clubhouse, on the field, in and the stands for the Mets. It is one of those things you can't really prove, but can feel. Later

    It feels funny seeing Jeff McNeil isn't there, then finding him with the outfielders. Later

    I don't think the Mets will be looking for a left fielder as much as a right fielder. IMO, with Stearns' stated purpose of upgrading defense, the Mets may consider moving Soto to left, or his more appropriate position -DH. There are still many options to be explored. It's still way too early to know how this will shake out. And, let me be the first to predict that Nick Morabito will be playing CF for the Mets before Jett Williams. He's the best defensive center fielder of all the in-house options mentioned. Later

    Other than the financial reason, it does restore a little of the lefty-righty balance to the lineup. Of all the other 2B candidates, only Mauricio might have been a righty hitting option. I'm with Ben. This is just the first of many moves. Later

    When I was a kid, the player touted as the "best right handed fielding first baseman" was Vic Power. This made me look it up. His DWAR was -0.8 Later

    Great job, fun read. This one gave me a flashback: One of my first posts on the CPF, talking about Mets scouting was something like, "The first Mets player signed, developed and to reach the majors from Latin America was Alex Trevino". Seems like only yesterday. Later

    Seems logical, because the pitcher would only have to warm up once or twice in that first scenario, but would have at least two other warm-up sessions in the second. And the number of pitches thrown in a warm-up session is more than typically thrown in one inning. Later

    Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Mets and Tyrone Taylor have agreed to $3.8 million deal for 2026 to avoid arbitration. Later

    IIRC there were several comments in the CPF about his handling of the bullpen last year. This was the first time I've read of one of the pitchers agreeing with us. Later

    I didn't see how much money each major league team will earn per year as a result of those contracts. IIRC, the last deal paid out $81 million per team. I'd guess this one will earn them much more. Later
