  1. And if there is going to be one from this WS, there is one less than you think, Don Mattingly fans.(he's a Toronto coach) Later
  2. Andy Griffith The Tom Seaver of game show hosts? Later
  3. Former New York Yankees top prospect Jesús Montero died, the team announced Sunday. He was 35. Montero was reportedly involved in a motorcycle crash in Venezuela earlier in October and had been in a medically-induced coma, according to the New York Post. The Yankees did not provide details regarding Montero's death, though did confirm the former catcher died. Later
  4. Harry Reems Tom Seaver of Physics? Later
  5. Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the San Francisco Giants are closing in on hiring Tennessee coach Tony Vitello as their next manager. Jeff Passan of ESPN elaborated, saying the Giants are expected to make a final decision and announcement within the next 24 to 72 hours. Vitello has no professional experience at any level. This would be a first. Later
  6. That reminds me of when I was a counsellor at summer camp. An eight year old asked me if I thought Joe Pepitone would make the Hall of fame. I told him that since he only hit .239, he'd have to improve a lot to make the Hall. Ruined the kid's day. Later
  7. I've seen a story that said the Tigers want a package that includes five Mets prospects. The Tigers have been a contender the past few years, so I'm not sure they are lacking the cash to pay him. But if they are, I think as it gets closer to them having to pay Tarik, the deal could get done with a package closer to what you describe. Later
  8. Replenishing the pen. (from Metsmerized.com) Later
  9. I can still remember when I wanted the Mets to acquire Ron Washington as a player. sigh. Later
  10. When I saw the name Albert, I thought of the NY sports announcing family. Later
  11. Per Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, the Mets are hiring Kai Correa as their new bench coach. Correa held the same role from 2020-2023 with the Giants. Most recently, he served as the Guardians' Major League Field Coordinator, as well as their director of defense, baserunning and game strategy. Later
  12. The Mets have put Jeff Albert in change of hitting, replacing Chavez. He has been in charge of minor league hitting for the Mets and before that was hitting coach for the Cardinals. I don't know how "in charge of hitting" differs from "hitting coach" but I guess we'll find out. Later
  13. "Take a Valium like a normal person !"--Laurie Metcalf, "Desperately Seeking Susan" Later
  14. When you walk out on your own you have dignity. That is always better emotionally than being fired. Mendoza deserves that dignity. Later
  15. While Reimer may end up at first, he's a third baseman and not a butcher they would have to move there. IMO Suero's talents would be wasted at first. He's a catcher who can run (over 20 SB without looking it up) and plays the outfield. I'm not sure Homie's near term position is at first. But if one of them has to move to first at the end of a productive 15 year Mets career, so be it. Ryan Clifford has the power and (lack of) speed that would make him the likeliest near term first baseman currently in the system. Later
  16. Yes. Managing a major league team is stressful. All managers have stress. Later
  17. Hmmmm I wonder how we can get Mendoza to feel the stress. Later
  18. 4 or more than 4 Later
  19. After all the pros and cons discussed in the other thread, what do you think Pete actually will do? Later
  20. Since nobody knows what's going to happen, I'm going to start a poll for what folks think will happen. Later
  21. I know too many nice Canadian (that's redundant) friends and one virulent anti-Mets Seattle acquaintance to root for any team in this other than the Jays. Later
  22. Reminds me of the book "The Long Season". In the late 1950s all Latin American players were known as, "First ball hitters, fast ball hitters". And the pitchers pitched them accordingly. Later
  23. This. Later
  24. Good hitter OBS+ 121 Two time All Star and one second place MVP finish. RIP Later
  25. Quite right. I will correct. Did Edgy ask me a question? I missed that. I think it was in one of the political threads a while ago. Later
