Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Five men NOW!!!!And yes, if you suspect Hernandez will go down in spring training, and fail to answer the opening day bell, list him not.Oft enough a team opens with a four-man set the first week or two, but even then, they usually announce the fifth, so don't get cute and only list four men.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Basically you're asking then for the first five men to start a game for the 07 Mets, in order.1. Glavine2. Hernandez3. Maine4. Perez5. Pelfrey
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I agree with Johnny:1. Glavine2. Hernandez3. Maine4. Perez5. Pelfrey
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 1) Glavine( a true Met)2) Hernandez3) Maine 4) Perez5) SolerI'm going with Soler because Willie will announce that Pelfrey will make a start in AAA then make the rotation for the third go around at Florida on April 18th for his season debut.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 I think we all agree on the first four, unless we're predicting injury. Though I guess Willie will let on that Maine and Perez still have to earn their slots, I imagine we all think they're good bets. There seem to be six real possiblities for the last slot. There are the experienced guys --- Sele, Sosa, and Williams --- and the inexperienced guys --- Humber, Pelfrey, and Soler.I think they'll go old first. Williams is the incumbent, but I don't think that makes him the favorite. I'll go with Sosa for no good reason. Glavine-Hernandez-Maine-Perez-Sosa.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I forgot already about Sele...I think he would be a good bet ,Willie is a feel guy so it could be a one of thing for the fifth day.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I'll go Glavine, Hernandez, Maine, Perez, Sosa.
Guest iramets Guests Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 OOPS! I thought I had created a new thread. Can this be diverted, or should I delete and start over again fresh? Not sure how long this will be up, but here's a link to a free excerpt from Terry Leach's autobiography. I love out-of-nowhere stories like his.

Guest sharpie Guests Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Glavine, Sele, Maine, Perez, PelfreyI'll go with Hernandez a late dl scratch and Sele taking his turn.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Glavine, Maine, Perez, Hernandez...the Mets will put off deciding on a 5th starter until needed and will then choose Humber over Pelfrey...they will claim the decision was based solely on who was on "normal rest" at the time

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 GlavineHernandezPerezMaineWilliamsWilliams has himself a decent enough ST to gain a spot but one on a short leash as Pelfrey & Humber start in N'awlins until ready to get eased in at the first stumble and/or injury.Sele isn't on the roster yet so would need to have a GREAT!!! ST in order to get added to the squad and I don't know that he still has it in him.Vargas is the dark horse.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 GlavineEl DuqueMaineO.PerezWilliamsThe current leading veteran candidates are:- Sele / Sosa / Williams / Soler / Vargas+ rookies: Pelfrey / Humber / CollazoI think Willie will go with a veteran initially, wanting the young guns to get regular work early in the season and be ready if/when the old arms go down or are ineffective. I think it'll come down to Sele, Williams and Sosa, in that order, and whichever one sucks least in ST will get the nod. I'm guessing Sele is finished, but Williams will show enough to start the season as the 5th SPer over Sosa.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 FK/VS similarity scores skyrocket ... perhaps on account of Vic being in his 'McReynolds' stage (heh, heh, heh)
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 McReyn..?... DOH!How much longer, lord? how much longer?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 HEY! Leave K-Mac alone. My real guess:OHernandezMaineOPerezGlavine (who injures himself late in the spring and needs a few extra days)Sosa
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 MainePerezGlavineHernandezSosai think that would put glavine as our home opener starter, presuming a four-man rotation for the opening week, with Sosilliams being the first to get the call for the 5th start.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I'm going to go out on a limb for Sele as #5.
