I'm on the fence right now. I'm leaning towards the Cards because I'm sick and tired of "The AL is superior". And it'd be nice if the team that won 83 games in the NL beat the Tigers.

I'm leaning towards the Tigers because I can't fucking stand La Russa, and Pooholes showed himself to be a prick. I can't take those two. And the Molina/Scioscia parallels make me want to vomit. I'm still glad I went yesterday, it was an amazing experience....but I'm heartbroken that I got the answer to one of my longtime questions: "What would've it been like to see 1988 NLCS Game 5 in person?"

You know what, after writing it down, I'm going Tigers. And with all that said I probably won't watch until Game 6.

Tigers. I prefer the team that beat the Yankees to the team that beat the Mets.

Cards. I want TLR to win a championship, then retire, so we won't have to look at him any more.

I went with the cats. Because fuck the Cardinals.
I'm sick of hearing the "NL is just AAAA baseball" shit, too, but fuck the Cardinals.

Nobody's going to see it that way.

I haven't decided yet.
Sometimes I just start watching these things hoping for nothing more than a good series to evolve and I unconsciously find myself pulling for one side over the other.

Prolly leaning towards the Tiggers.
I'll usually root for the NL team but;
- I have trouble rooting for 83-win teams to wear the crown
- Detroit could "use this one" a lot more than StL
- getting a bit sick of the Cards and LaRussa always coming up short

[bad thought]FOX is going to play up the LaRussa/Leyland friendship, mentor/student thing until we're all sick of both of them. They were so all over Leyland as the cuddly story during the '97 WS (was that FOX back then?) that they almost forgot to mention that there were actual players on his team doing hitting and pitching stuff[/bad thought]

Making the decision based on who beat the Yankees alarms me. Waaaaay too much concern about the Yankees in Met fans. I mean this as a generalism not about anyone here in particular.

with no real rooting interest, i go with what i go with.

i just think it'd make for better talk radio, really, if the cards won.

really, i don't care what yankee fans (generalization) think. i just care that i have to hear their (generealization) idiocy when i choose to listen to sports talk radio.

the less idiocy i have to hear, no matter the source or subject, the better.

Cardinals, out of deference to my 13-year-old.

I went with the Cards. I'm an NL guy and I agree with Elster that this "AL is overwhelmingly better" crap needs to stop.

I refuse to watch any of the games on FOX, though. FOX ruins baseball. I'll listen to the series on the radio. I'm boycotting FOX games unless they are Mets playoff games until their contract runs out.

If a Cardinals sweep put an end to the "AL is better" bullshit I wouldn't mind.

But no playoff games for 19 years? 12 straight losing seasons? There's not even a question as to whose loyal fans deserve it more.

I think a well-played 7 game series should put an end to that no matter who wins except for the people who are too stupid to be worth arguing with anyhow.

I'll go with the Tigers, I don't like LaRussa, don't llike Pujols and I hated to hear the Cardinals singing ole ole ole last night while celebrating.

Im an NL man-always root for the NL team.
But this NL team knocked out my Mets.

Gonna root for the Tiggers.
Leyland, those pitchers, those motor city batters.

They havent gone this far for a long, long time.
Gotta go with Detriot.

Cardinals, longest drought of the two teams (and of all teams in the 2006 playoffs)

Funny thing, there is this guy in a class I'm taking who isn't a baseball fan but rooted for the Mets because he "roots for the underdog" I tried to explain that there was no way ANYONE could call the Mets an "Underdog" in 2006. He used the "They haven't won in so long" card to which I said that Detroit and St Louis haven't won since before the last time the Mets won, plus the Cards won only 83 games, so the Cards (yes despite winning 100 in 04 and 05) really were the Underdog team that was trying to end a longer streak of non winning!
