For the first time in a while, perhaps all season, we're magic numbering against the Florida Marlins, who have the second fewest losses in the division.

The magic number is 49.

Just chuckle worthy I guess

Nah. I don't think I'll be rushing to post the magic number before Steve does. That's a fool's game. He's like Valadius in that regard.

I just wanted to post Tug for 45.

I don't have any inspired thoughts for most of the smaller numbers.

I'm heading to bed actually, maybe lack of sleep has me more irratable and irrational on internet message boards

Should the number drop to 44 tonight, in honor of the sweep I think the image imbedded in this link would work fine

Actually, I think we should just count down with Mets uniform numbers. You know, if it hits 44, post Jay Payton. 43 could be a picture of Terry Leach, and so on...

Who are we rooting for to lower the magic # anyhow? I get confused when Philly plays Florida.

Next week is really going to be dicey. We play Florida (who I THINK is whom we are rooting against) and Philly plays the Cards, chances of both teams losing two or three is very good and this weekend we play the Phillies and Florida plays the Dodgers.

Can't anyone here claim this here 2nd place?

or everyone could just post all the silly pictures they want....

]I agree and thats what I'm hoping to do, especially 41. But in honor of the sweep that photo is a photo of a giant 44 outside Turner Field, obviously Hank Aaron's 44

Why don't we take a hint and defer to the guy who has put so much work into the thread?

Whoever (other than the Mets) has the fewest losses in the NL East.

Now you're blaming lack of sleep?

I guess my work here isn't done after all.

The magic number is actually 46.

The Phillies have 54 losses, and can still win 108 games. The Mets have 63 wins. To get to 109 wins, they'd need to win 46 games.

Oklahoma, the 46th state

BTW, in 1986 the Daily News published a collection of its Mets columns for the season. They started their countdown on August 8th, and the magic number on that date was 41.
