Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 For the first time in a while, perhaps all season, we're magic numbering against the Florida Marlins, who have the second fewest losses in the division. The magic number is 49.http://www.learnhistory.org.uk/west/Jan29~02.JPG
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Florida loses which means, 47
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I guess it makes sense that the lefty is a Glavine fan.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 The Mets win, and Florida loses -
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 AHHHHH, DH in FloridaAwww shucks, I wanted to post a nice pic of a 1946 Corvette ad
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 ="ScarletKnight41"]The Mets win, and Florida loses -Strange conveluence of things there. From FSU on a Tim McGraw thing a picture of Tug McGraw!Just chuckle worthy I guess
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 It looks like my work in this thread is done.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Nah. I don't think I'll be rushing to post the magic number before Steve does. That's a fool's game. He's like Valadius in that regard.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I think Scarlett Knight was the winner today actually.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I just wanted to post Tug for 45.I don't have any inspired thoughts for most of the smaller numbers.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Who are we rooting for to lower the magic # anyhow? I get confused when Philly plays Florida.

You know, if it hits 44, post Jay Payton. 43 could be a picture of Terry Leach, and so on...

We play Florida (who I THINK is whom we are rooting against) and Philly plays the Cards, chances of both teams losing two or three is very good and this weekend we play the Phillies and Florida plays the Dodgers. Can't anyone here claim this here 2nd place?

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 ]I agree and thats what I'm hoping to do, especially 41. But in honor of the sweep that photo is a photo of a giant 44 outside Turner Field, obviously Hank Aaron's 44Why don't we take a hint and defer to the guy who has put so much work into the thread?

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I guess my work here isn't done after all.The magic number is actually 46.The Phillies have 54 losses, and can still win 108 games. The Mets have 63 wins. To get to 109 wins, they'd need to win 46 games.Oklahoma, the 46th state
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 OAK-LA-HOMA where the wind comes rolling through the plains...You're doing fine Oaklahoma! Oaklahoma! Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 OK - hopefully someone will be able to repost Tug soon. Sorry about that.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 BTW, in 1986 the Daily News published a collection of its Mets columns for the season. They started their countdown on August 8th, and the magic number on that date was 41.
