At least one question has been answered. It wasn't clear from earlier reports whether Thornton would start, or come in after an "opener.

Which reminds me.

When the the term "long man" become "bulk reliever"?

Both Christian Scott and Nolan McLean have had trouble throwing enough strikes lately. Let's hope Thorton isn't even wilder.

I know, that was a long way to go for a very mediocre joke, especially coming right on the heels of 'bulk reliever'

But yours was certainly classier, you erudite punster, you.

DC forecast for 6:45 game:

6 PM - Scattered Thunderstorms

7 PM - Thunderstorms

8 PM - Heavy Thunderstorms

9 PM - Rain 100%

10 PM - Rain 100%

All that early stuff can always be hit or miss, but 9:00 and later looks pretty problematic.

Mets pumping the breaks on that all-rookie outfield, but the rookie starting pitcher is a go.

I've always conflated Zach Littell with Mark Littell, an unrelated Cardinals pitcher in the early 80s. I remember the elder Littell because his 1981 Topps card not only looked badly airbrushed, but my copy also had a fuzzy printing error that made it look like he was bleeding from the eyes. It was so weird.

Why is Torrens not catching? Senger??

Long night last night (and a bit of a rough one for Luis), day game tomorrow, and probably more familiarity between Senger and Thornton.

A bit of a rough start for the kid but finished on a upswing and keeps his ERA below double digit territory* thanks to getting an inning ending out on a Benge-to-Senger throw out of a runner.

* 4 ER/4-1/3 IP = 8.31

On seeing that Baty walk, it's worth noting that the Mets didn't walk at all last night.

But a visit from The Dark Fairy of Grounding into Double Plays ends that.

Losing 2 of 3 to the Nationals after a nice period kinda tells me I'm pissing against the wind to  believe the Mets can finish over .500

I think Stearns knows they're toast and is promoting youth

Consecutive two HR days by our 2nd & 3rd hitters and yet ... going 0-2 in those games?

Top hitting and bottom pitching from Washington.
