Look, I know you want Williams to get his cahnfidence back, but suddenly this is NOT a save situation any more, and we know what happens to closers™ when it's not a save situation.

Don't do this, Mendoza.

Turn the fucking lights on, Jesus, what are we doing here ?

I always thought someone would get hurt on a home run trot because the lights are out.

I missed the start of this game , why did Scott only go 1.1 innings? Was that the plan .?

Justin Willard dressing like a trainer on his trip to the mound did not make this any better.

Maybe Brazoban knew exactly what he was doing.

Brazoban was right to try and bogart the mound before this bum got to it.

Bogarting is exactly the right word.

Maybe the Mets plan on doing the season the same way they did the offseason.  They have every intention of being competitive, but first, it's really important that they kick us all in the balls a whole bunch of times so we all know who is in charge.

I can’t figure out if Brazoban coming out was good or bad. On the one hand, he did get one out. And maybe that was the difference.  On the other hand, maybe that disruption got Williams out of rhythm.

I love the idea of them coming across each other approaching the mound.

"What are you doing here?"
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
"I'm pitching, dipshit."
"Um ... nobody told me I was out of the game."
"And you didn't see me coming into the game?"
"I didn't see shit, man. The lights were out."
"Did you think maybe the lights were out because I was coming into the game?"
"Maybe they were out because nobody wanted to see you pitch."
"I didn't just give up a grand slam."
"Yeah, because you weren't pitching.  And you know, I'm still not convinced you are."
"Well, I am."
"And I'm to believe that why?  Because, you know, Austin Warren isn't here to bail you out anymore."
"Just go back to the dugout."
"Why?  Because you say so?"
"Because the bullpen phone rang, and it says so.  Do they not have phones in Cuba?"
"Oh, look.  Here comes the ump.  He says I'm the pitcher and you have to go back to the bullpen."
"Fuck that.  I'm going to the dugout.  You get one batter and then I'm coming back out here."
"Whatever.  Hold on.  We'll turn out the lights for you."

I see that Williams was credited with the win even though Brazoban was the Mets pitcher when the winning runs scored. I suppose the official scorer used the "brief and ineffective" rule to take the win from Brazoban, but Williams doesn't really seem much more deserving. I probably would have given the win to Peterson, but I'm not sure how much discretion the official scorer has. Does the win have to go to a pitcher adjacent in the box score to the guy who was brief and ineffective?

sorta sped watched this, over the morning. Crazy game.

Totally inconsequential but did anyone else notice the catcher microphone being too high in the mix for the first few innings at least.

IIRC it is fully at the discretion of the official scorer. But I think you're right. They generally give it to the "adjacent" pitcher.
