Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 I would think there are MLB restrictions on using that official logo. I think so too. That's why I created the third version, using the highway font.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I think Ben is on to something with this signage. Can the blue and orange of Mets more closely match the coloring of the official logo in the first sign?
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Not quite the right green. Looks good though. Please try the directional arrow to kind fill in space. Just to see.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 I got the green from an actual photo, but I suppose the color would vary depending on the amount of sunlight.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 I looked up the official shade, and tried that. It's quite a bit darker.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I looked up the official shade, and tried that. It's quite a bit darker. Okay, just sayin’, and I’m just one person…I think this is perfect!
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 The kerning is a bit much and it could use a little more pizzazz but the it's a solid design idea.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Out of curiosity, why the road sign motif? It seems out of sync with the name itself.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Not at all. The name "Grand Central" comes from the Grand Central Parkway, which is the highway that leads to Citi Field.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Love it, love the Mets in team colors and the arrow. That's pretty damn sharp.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Out of curiosity, why the road sign motif? It seems out of sync with the name itself. How about "Grand Central Mets"? The 7-Line has co-opted the name of the subway that goes to Shea, I mean, Citi. We could do the same with the highway that goes there. It also suggests that the site is a hub of activity.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Out of curiosity, why the road sign motif? It seems out of sync with the name itself. Not being from New York you'd obviously associate Grand Central with the train terminal rather than the parkway. But while the terminal is certainly more famous, the parkway is more Mets-ian.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I'm all for Willets Point.I don't live in the five boroughs, but I know how to get to the ballpark.

Ahhhhhh, that makes way more sense.I hoped to loop back on this today, but was overwhelmed trying to get community awards posted for other sites.Tomorrow, I will adapt this green sign concept into a group of designs, and you all can vote on which you like the most.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I like the last rendition with the darker green for the sign. Great work Ben.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 A couple more pictures...https://www.eastcoastroads.com/states/ny/parkways/grand/photogal/ramps/archive Looks like one of those Captcha things that prives you aren’t a bot!
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 A couple more pictures...https://www.eastcoastroads.com/states/ny/parkways/grand/photogal/ramps/archive Is traffic really that light? Probably just good timing on the images. Also it looks like live cam captures, so probably just used images where you weren’t too distracted by all the vehicles to see the road signs.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Is there a problem (trademark?) with using the Mets script?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 I don't know for sure, but it's probably better to avoid that just in case. I think the highway sign font works pretty well as an alternative.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) If you're going to do a roadsign - or a subway sign - you need to match the font exactly.I feel like the Mets are more associated with trains than highway traffic Edited March 6 by Johnny Lunchbucket
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 I agree. I was glad that I was able to find a downloadable font to use.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Is there a problem (trademark?) with using the Mets script? Magic 8 Ball says, 'It Is Most Likely.'
