I went to school for engineering, so I’m great with words.

Something organic that pulls on our history, that feels like we coulda named it back in the day or along the way.

I dont have good ideas, just some thoughts.

Kranepool Connection

What's Kranepool to 90% of Mets fans? Ed Kranepool was literally 60+ years ago now. If we're rebranding, we might want to update the image we're trying to project just a little bit. A lot has happened with the Mets since the 1960s and 1970s.

Mets Magic, like Meet the Mets, is so basic that it's not memorable. It's easy to remember, but it's not memorable. Faith and Fear in Flushing is both easy to remember (alliterative with allusions to Metsly things) and memorable. Metropolitan Baseball is too vague. It could literally refer to a 40+ amateur city wood bat league. From Shea to Citi would be better as a book about the transitional time when the Mets were moving stadiums, otherwise its too specific and doesn't encapsulate enough (and the Mets also played at the Polo Grounds once!!). Amazin' Archive would be a good title for the archived UMDB page.

Mets Grand Central is a decent take on the other name, though one likes the first option better.

By the way I'm not criticizing any ideas, this is how brainstorming works. Ideas are bounced off each other until the best one is proposed. It's like a Hegelian dialectic or something.

If you want to avoid “Mets”, some options to consider:

Amazin’

Shea

Roosevelt Ave

Queens

Miracle

Or we could honor our new host and go with another BB name.

The Bane of Bruce Berenyi.

The Brethren of Brian Bohanan

The concentration of BB-d initialed players in Mets history is stunning.

It has left researchers speechless.

Except we're NOT trying to avoid 'Mets'.

As stated in the opening post in this thread, the idea is to contain 'Mets' as a stand-alone term in one form or another for the purpose of making it easier for NYM fans to find.

You may recall that one of the reasons for naming this place Crane Pool, with that spelling, was that we were trying not to be found specifically by those we had just escaped from*.

One of our earlier descriptions of the place was that we were a bird watching forum with a baseball problem.

* And it worked ... for a while anyway. And then a flame war ensued.

I think the goal of this whole project is to make it less esoteric ... a nod to an individual poster some of us don't even know does the opposite of that :/

We would know that, but other Mets fans would know it as where the Mets stadium is located, and the name of the subway station they use to go to the games.

A good choice on multiple levels.

Sorta kinda, but Mets fandom extends far beyond NYC and a lot of Mets fans don't know that stuff. It's still a pretty arcane name. Mets fans across the country know what Flushing and Queens are; not so much Willets Point. Not all of us live in the Five Boroughs.

Nearly two decades as a Met

The Brotherly Brood of Bruce Bochy

53 PA as a Met

Yeah, now we're getting somewhere.

Something like the Mets Pool could work, because a pool is a group of reporters. Like, the Mets press pool. Wade into the deep end for the forums.

A nod to our own history and all that.

Otherwise…

Mets central

Mets express

Mets landing

Mets connection

Metslink

Mets on my mind

Mets forum

Mets mezzanine

Mets hub

Mets bot farm

But seriously though. If you google “Mets forum” and the names that come up have “Mets” and “forum” in the description isn’t that enough? Would a clever cheeky or interesting name draw more visits than literally just saying Mets? I don’t know seo and marketing clearly. And most of my humor is dad jokes at this point.

Tying into collective team history à la Kranepool grounds the place more than “Mets [noun]” but yeah it might be a bit esoteric

Hmm.

Shea Bridge. Where Mets fans gather.

I’m not very good at this.

Grand Central Mets

Mets Line

I think Mets Line is great, but you all seem to really like Grand Central Mets. Both are good, and if all of you want to choose between them (I suspect you're all leaning GCM), that's cool with me.

In addition to the Grand Central Parkway, there is off course

Grand Central Terminal which is one of the most iconic railroad

hubs in the world. I don't drive to games but rather take Metro

North to GCT and get the 7 downstairs. Win win...

Mets Line is pretty generic. Grand Central has much more of a New York feel. And as I stated previously, it conveys a sense of motion and activity.

Reading this thread is kinda winning me over to Grand Central. Also, I like GCM as an acronym.

How do we finalize this? Thumb wrestling?

I also like GCM better than Mets Line. The TLA (three letter acronym) is a proven winner, at least round these parts.

Put me down for Grand Central Mets. Is the apparent, consensus of this thread enough? Or do we need a poll?

A poll would give everyone the opportunity to cast their vote and make the choice official.

It feels a consensus is emerging

Yep.

Sounds like I should be looking for my fiddle and ladder.

I've been playing around with logo designs all morning, keep veering back to the metro signage idea. None of the Grand Central themes were playing with the logo. I like the concept, but I'm struggling with the "7". Will people confuse that with a player?
