The top two finalist at virtually every position featured a Dodger, so I was afraid that the large LA voting block might push Betts past the more deserving Lindor. Glad to see that Lindor win out.

Well, deserved.

A nice turnaround for Gleyber to go from so-called "laziest player in baseball" to All-Star starter for the best team in the league.

Cal Raleigh may be a no-brainer of an All-Star, but watch him get owned by Bobby Witt, Jr. here.

The All-Star reserves get named tonight.

Given that every team gets represented and Dave Roberts will likely bring as many Dodgers as he can, I'm curious who will join Lindor from the Mets. I think Soto and Alonso, and maybe Diaz, but that would be a lot of Mets.

I like it when All-Star Games have lots of ASG vets, rather then a bunch of first timers, because what you are seeing is a true collection of the game's current greats and not just flashes in the pan and one-year wonders. These are all the All-Stars with 5+ selections under their belts now:

Clayton Kershaw (11)

Freddie Freeman (9)

Chris Sale (9)

Aroldis Chapman (8)

Aaron Judge (7)

Manny Machado (7)

Jose Ramirez (7)

Josh Hader (6)

Ronald Acuna (5)

Pete Alonso (5)

Jacob DeGrom (5)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (5)

Francisco Lindor (5)

Shohei Ohtani (5)

Corbin Carroll was activated and played after coming back surprisingly quickly. I wonder if the DBacks will rather he sit this one out and continue to heal, opening a spot for Soto.

I remember as a kid being super excited to see the Mets represented at the ASG. Now when they play all I can think is “don't get hurt”.

Would love to know when that transition took place.

I was surprised by Chris Sale's number of trips. Forgot how long he's been so good.

The snub is going to fire up Soto. He'll be thinking, "I'm not an all-star? I'll show you why I should be the MVP". He's going to put up huge numbers in the rest of the season.

Yeah. Because Juan Soto can get a hit or hit a homer whenever he fucking feels like it. When Soto had his awful April last April, it was because he didn't fucking feel like getting any hits.

I'm not trying to prove any point.

Just trying to spread some optimistic sunshine.

That would be great!

I was surprised to learn that this was Lindor's first ASG start, all of his previous CLE appearances were as a reserve. Good on him, he deserved it this year (and last year of course).

While in the American League, appeared in four All-Star Games, behind starters Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, Manny Machado, and Javier Báez.

He may just be a player who prospers in the second halves of seasons. He failed to make the ASG roster the last three years while eventually finishing ninth, ninth, and second in MVP votes.

We might do well to base our All Star Game selections on the totality of a player's performance since the previous All-Star Game, not merely on his current half season or less.

What about ageing stars with declining performance at the end of their careers. Should they be honored by being named to the All Star squad? I think this was done when the writers voted.

You can vote for whoever you like but I do not recall an era when All-Stars were selected by writers.

Yes, the fans did it for years, some cities loading up the teams with players from their local team. But that was the starters. I don't recall how the rest of the team was filled out. And after that abuse, the voting was changed and I'm not sure who voted for the AS team.
