He probably resigned like Buck did. I think Eppler was pretty decent, for sure better than I thought he'd be. But makes sense STOINS is going with all his own people.

Like Eppler, Showalter had plusses and minuses and you can't credit him for last season while giving him a pass on this year. The Mets have done quite a bit worse in the recent past, but they can also do better and hopefully they will.

Remind me to copy and paste this post sometime later in the week when it's Eppler's turn.

I haven't really been clear on what a GM does when he works under a POBO. Maybe Eppler wasn't either, or he found out and decided it wasn't for him.

Mostly handles the details of contract negotiations, arbitration, liaisons with other GMs on trades, etc., while POBO directs the overall direction of the club and organization.

He was given a lot of money to spend on the finest ride, and he did.

He bought a Mercedes-Benz.

And then he put bald tires on it.

Roster construction wasn't his strong point.

There has been some talk about Buck and Eppler disagreeing about Vogelbach's playing time

Eppler may have pushed Buck to play Vogelbach more than Buck may have liked

Someday maybe the Mets will be investigated for being awesome, and hopefully not for Astro reasons.

A report in The Athletic says multiple execs on other teams said that is not a resignation thing, so what is going on?

But he seemed to be okay with it. Maybe he found out that his role would be smaller than he thought it would be. Or maybe it's this IL thing. Maybe we'll find out. And maybe we won't.

i like to think that on strearns' first day on the job he called in billy eppler for his one-on-one intro meeting, and it satarted off like, "have you noticed what the braves are doing in atlanta? explain to me why you hadn't locked up pete alonso yet?"

and that was that.

Did you notice that Alonso just hired Scott Boras, which will make things more difficult?"

and that was that.

I added one thing I think might be key.

I might guess that Eppler was "asked" to resign

Eppler kinda looks like he was incompetent on some level and did play well with others

I do feel badly now about Buck leaving knowing this know
