batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Chris "Mad Dog" Russo sez so.Chris ‘Mad Dog' Russo makes shocking charge against Mets owner Steve Cohen Excerpt:...the bombastic hot take-machine is questioning Cohen's loyalty.“First off, let's get rid of one of these myths, that Steve Cohen, growing up in Long Island had Ed Kranepool pictures in his bedroom,” Russo said on ESPN's “First Take” on Tuesday. “No, he didn't. He's the owner. He owns a fortune. He was a Yankee fan! He loved the Yankees! He didn't love the Mets. The Mets were for sale, and now he's got his Mets hat on and he's Mr. Met? Nonsense!”https://www.nj.com/mets/2023/06/chris-mad-dog-russo-makes-shocking-charge-against-mets-owner-steve-cohen.htmlhttps://www.nj.com/mets/2023/06/chris-mad-dog-russo-makes-shocking-charge-against-mets-owner-steve-cohen.html
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I'm sorry, but anyone who says "in Long Island" automatically loses some credibility.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 ask me if i give a shit. if he was still a yankee fan, ok, maybe i'm annoyed right now. but this...? please. i have yellow skies and entire countries burning to the ground to worry about. where the hell am i going to get my maple syrup from if canada burns to the ground, damnit! priorities, people - sheesh!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 How sad that Chris Russo talking is considered news.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Yeah, I notice that he didn't provide any evidence to back up his terrible take.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Russo has always been an idiot. Sure, he's worked up over this, but it's his schtick. It really doesn't matter what team Cohen rooted for as a kid. A few years ago, Francisco Lindor rooted for Cleveland and as recently as last year Justin Verlander favored the Astros.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Our friend Steve J. Rogers worries himself about these kinda things but Russo is an idiot
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Worst thing about this is I read it in Dog's voice. What a wanker he is

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I met him years ago when he was still on M&MD at a charity event. Talked for ten minutes, he was just a normal guy. Giants, Mets and would not talk about Mike -- can't blame me for throwing that worm in the water.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Eh, he's just got his brand and is now very wealthy from it. Salute. Now when Michael Kay leaks out a story that Cohen is a closet Skanksfan then we can start talking.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I see Russo in the afternoons on MLB network far from being on Long Island
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 High Heat is not a terrible show. Most days.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I haven't noticed the gambling slant but I only watch smidgens. More importantly, is that his hair or a rug? Either way, needs something...

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I don't think i've listened to him even once since he left WFAN, and that is a good thing.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I haven't heard him at all since he left FAN either. If I had to guess, I would say he doesn't believe half the things he says. Or at least not to the extent he makes it seem. His job is to talk sports and make it interesting. Fire people up and get them listening, calling, arguing. He's very talented at doing so and turned it into a fortune. Paraphrasing Ralph, guys who get ratings drive Cadillacs. I don't dislike him at all for doing so. Especially when there are soulless assholes telling lies to the public for ratings and destroying the country without a care in the world. Tucker Carlson and Alex Fucking Jones. Give me Russo any day.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Where's the line between not believing half the things you say in order to get ratings (and drive Cadillacs), on one hand, and telling lies to the public for ratings on the other?I don't mean to be obstinate, merely curious. I get that one works in sports punditry and the others in political policy punditry. Is that the distinction you mean to draw?
