kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 MLB Channel says a source says Hosmer to Red Sox.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Joey Gallo to the Dodgers 'pending physicals'.That's crazy!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 OMG! Steve Phillips is once again (still?) on MLBN.Hadn't seen/heard from him in years.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I almost didn't recognize him when he was on High Heat earlier. Supposedlyhe an MLB 'radio' show which I was not aware of.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 steve phillips has been doing the morning drive show on the mlb radio sirius/xm channel for a long time. gotta say, i rather enjoy him there.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Wasn't being negative, he seems to know his shit this afternoon.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer wound up going to the Red Sox (a team NOT on his no-trade list), so presumably the Padres and Nationals can now get around to finalize this. Or, the Nationals have used the delay to figure out that they are setting their franchise back for a decade and they probably shouldn't do that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 It's unclear to me whether including Hosmer in the deal was supposed to be for the benefit of the Pads or the Nats? He's having a nice year but is aging, expensive, and likely to get worse by the time the Nats get better. From SD's perspective, it's future payroll relief in anticipation of what Soto will command in the near future but how much if they were eating a big chuck of it?The two sides will tweak the deal somehow but it'll be a side issue at this point. In the meantime, he may not hit many HRs in Boston (very high GB rate) but has the kind of LH swing that'll pepper the Green Monster.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Marlins trade Pop and Bass (but not Jazz) across the border in what I assume is a U.S./Canadian cultural music exchange program.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 David Robertson, who the Mets were rumored to be targeting, goes from the Cubs to the Phillies. No word on Willson Contreras yet.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Phillies had to give up their 26th best prospect to get Robertson. We gave up at least one better prospect for the difference between Darrin Ruf and J. D. Davis.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 What a flop this deadline is turning out to be for us. I don't know if Eppler just overplayed his hand or what, but jeez.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Tick tockTick tockOne hour to go.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Heyman: 'Mets don't see a likelihood for a Contreras trade'
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 MLBN: Possible trade of Noah Syndergaard down to two teams, Jays, Phillies
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Michael Fullmer to the Twins.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) Jayson Stark: Phils trade Mickey Moniak (former 1/1 draft pick) plus another prospect for ... Noah Syndergaard. Edited August 2, 2022 by Guest
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Noah to Phillies seems a done deal according to a few places.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Mets have agreed to a trade that'll net them right-handed reliever Mychal Givens from the Cubs, SNY's Andy Martino tweets. (Per trade rumors)
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Can Patrick Mazieka exhale yet?Later
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Martino saying Familia is leaving the Phils, but not saying if traded or DFAed.The Royals have traded Whit Merrifield to the Blue Jays.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Looks like the Mets lost the trade deadline this year. Nothing of significance acquired.Padres will be flipping dangerous in October.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Yeah, I'm still deeply worried about any current Met playing catcher.I thought one of the perks of the DH in the NL is that we could avoid giant black holes in the lineup.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Man, we fucked this up badly. Ugh.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Yanx surprisingly deal away starting LH pitcher Jordan Montgomery. Not that Montgomery is super great but that they don't have a ton of depth there even with the addition of Montas.Apparently the return if CF defensive whiz Harrison Bader. That allows them to move Judge away from CF and pretty much pushes the other Aaron, Hicks, to the bench (or out) although Bader is currently injured so not immediately.

I guess they decided to walk away from the table while they were ahead.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I think we're prematurely scoring the trade deadline.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Phillies got better. Robertson, Syndergaard and Marsh are all improvements. And they're getting Harper back soon too, no?Bader to the Yankees is a homecoming in that he is a local kid (Bronx)
