bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 Amazin' job by Medina, especially with the delay.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 Remember, JD Davis says to stay on your backside more and not on your toes.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 Boy, those last few innings were playoff-intensity baseball.

Fuck it, this was the biggest regular season series in years and years for this team, and they were embarrassed twice, screwed up a few things, and still took 2 on the enemies turf. And boy did Buck pants Robert's in this series. This is the most interesting Mets team since 86
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 No doubt. But Diaz is going to need to pitch two innings at least once against the Dodgers in October.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 Sure, but Edwin was a bit erratic himself in the 8th and, while I don't think bringing him back for the 9th would have been the Wrong move, had he blown up in the 9th Buck would have been subject to at least as much scrutiny as he was/is for not doing so.I liked the strategy as a whole and it was unfortunate that Lugo faltered but I don't think the wrong choice.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 (edited) What a game, holy moly ! I caught most of the last two innings on the radio call as I was mowing my lawn. No Howie, today, which was a shame. Having said that,1) I loved that Buck used Diaz in the 8th against the top of the lineup. Totally 100% the smart play2) I don't like Lugo on back to back days and he clearly was off his best. I don't know that I'd have pulled him, though, against a .190 hitter with two outs3) Medina showed some big stones in the 10th4) I don't challenge the CI call in the bottom of that inning if I'm Dave Roberts. Taking the bat out of the hands of an All Star player? Dumb. Let him hit, he's got a better chance than any of the subsequent guys to plate the tying run Edited June 5, 2022 by Guest

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 [CROSSOUT]I believe the CI was a "crew chief challenge" whatever that is. [/CROSSOUT]CB Bucknor doesn't strike me as a great crew chief after this series. Edit-- no that was the foul HR. Nevermind
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 It also felt like the Dodgers deployed everything, while the Mets still had something in reserve.Medina is a pitcher — and not the team's only one — with a chance to grow in profile as the season progresses. Also, lest it go unsaid, the automatic runner rule is still bad for baseball. Winning or losing don't change that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 Speaking of a confused Dave Roberts, unless there was no one on his bench -- and I mean No One including a recently retired coach maybe who could somehow be insta-activated -- I was stunned that he let Eddy Alvarez hit in that spot [2-out, 9th inning, down one, following the Taylor double]. I mean, it worked [first pitch game-tying single] but Alvarez is 32 y/o with just over 100 ML PAsunder his belt, a .198/.292/.292 career slash line, has been a Dodger for like an hour and a half, and at this point is better known for the novelty that he's a baseball player considering his Miami-born/ice skating background, then he is for anything he's actually done As a baseball player.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Vote in this one! Support my advocacy for Adonis Medina! Sent in to pitch with the tying run on second and Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Trea Turner due to bat, he ended up having to get something like four outs after catcher's interference undid his efforts against Turner, and he still ended the game without that runner scoring!Ended the game by striking out The Fresh Prince with the tying run on third and the winning (losing) run on second!
