Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Giants at Phils. SFG goes up 3-2 on a 2-out 9th inning solo HR from Longoria off Knebel. (Phils had led 2-0 until a 7th inning 2R HR by Wilmer tied it)Next batter Luis Gonzalez (no, not that one) singles on a 2-1 pitch. Knebel immediately tries to pick him off; he's safe but Philly challenges. They lose ... as they should have. Two pitches later, (plus several more pickoff attempts) Gonzalez tries to steal. He's called out so now it's SF's turn to challenge. Also denied (as it should be) Top-9 now over.So the second pitch of Bottom 9 is hit for a game tying HR from Schwarber and it's tied up again. And now Kapler is out to make a pitching change. My point in all this (aside from humiliating the Phils for being one strike shy of a victory)? That even though neither replay lasted very long (by replay standards), the gap between Longoria crossing the plate and the first pitch of bottom 9 was a bit over 10 minutes during which time four pitches were thrown!! Throw in the two pitches to Schwarber which in turn led to the pitching change and now you're up to more than 13 minutes to see six pitches thrown. What should be the most exciting part of the game instead had a ridiculous non-action to action ratio. They're into the 10th now.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2022 Author Posted May 31, 2022 Really Noah, you gotta pick Today to suck!Syndergaard has given up 5 runs on six hits (incl. a HR and 3 2Bs) over the first two innings in da Bronx. Also, Judge stole a HR from Ohtani.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2022 Author Posted May 31, 2022 Kody Clemens, the youngest of Roger's four sons, makes his ML debut for the Tigers tonight at 2nd base.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2022 Author Posted June 1, 2022 Some late night scores of interest:-- Phils lose to Giants in 11This game was actually in Philly but took nearly 5 hours to play so it may as well have been out west-- Braves lose in Arizona in 10 after leading most of the game-- Marlins postponed in Colorado-- Dodgers lose 2nd straight to Pittsburgh
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 https://www.mlb.com/news/fenway-park-high-school-promBest. Prom. Ever. at Fenway Park last night. [insert joke about "getting to first base" with your date]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 That's terrific.Tommy Pham (and really, shouldn't he be exclusively referred to as "Tommy PHWAM!" at this point?) has served his three-game suspension, and has jokingly blamed the smacking incident on Commissioner Mike Trout's lax supervision.Footage has surfaced of the slap, and while it's merely a background detail in the shot, I'd conclude that Phwam!'s hands are a lot quicker than Will Smith's.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Don't know if this was mentioned during today's game but the Mets 10.5 game divisional first place lead is the largest in NL history for June 1st.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 And this is happening when the season started late because of the lockout too.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 If tail end of the 20th century is https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/1971-schedule-scores.shtml1971, then yes.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Author Posted June 2, 2022 Ohtani suxx. There, I said it.In two career games against the Yanx (a couple years ago and just this afternoon) he's combined to serve up 11 Runs on 15 Hits, including 4 HRs & 5 BBs, in a combined 3-2/3 innings. But at least he has that special rule made just for him that when he exits the game he gets to remain as DH. That at least allowed him to get on base ... and promptly get picked off while down by six runs!!, y'know, the runs you gave up.6-0 Yanx (4 solo HRs) with the game in the midst of their usual 10-minute* long 7th inning stretch.Fuck you and I hope we kick your ass next week**!!* truthfully clocked in at right around 4:00, which is still double what should be permitted. But George Steinbrenner liked to pretend he invented patriotism so a daily dog and pony show is for some reason allowed to ensue during each home game in the Bronx** In a bad mood? Me? What makes you think that?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Not that everything about the DH isn't horseshit, but that special rule is horseshit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Angels, down 2-1 with two out in the ninth, just loaded the bases on a walk and two hit batsmen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 But Luis Rengifo ends it with a groundout.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Author Posted June 2, 2022 But instead the Angles get swept, both in today's DH and in the three game series overall, scoring exactly one run in each of the three games.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 Wow!I guess he never should have let Harper and now Segura get hurt, or have signed all those terrible defensive players.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Joe Girardi, who was fired by the #Phillies, said on MLB Network Radio he still "prays that they get better, and they get to the playoffs." Is this literally true? Does Girardi get down on his knees and then clasp his hands together and then concentrate real hard that the Phils make the playoffs? Does he have conversations with himself inside of his head where he says or thinks to himself that the Phils hopefully make the playoffs? What exactly goes on here? A little help

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 well, girardi knows first hand what kind of bullpen they have, so he knows there's no hope.
