kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Oh that problem! I was thinking of the other Kyrie problems. We should have a pool, guess who the anti-vaxers are.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 Well, should be pretty obvious on April 15th. Hoping it was Conforto, Syndergaard, Pillar, Familia and Villar.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Zimmo and Davis are the ones I recall remarking things about "personal choice."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 This also means that unvaccinated visiting players won't be able to play either.Being ineligible for 81 home games might induce a Mets player to get the vaccine, but we may have cases where a star visiting player will sit out a three-game series at Citi Field because he doesn't want to get vaccinated just to play in three games. This is an interesting wrinkle.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 The also won't be able to play in Toronto, which has a similar rule. I suspect others will follow.I heard in one report that the players won't be paid for games where they are ineligible to play because of this. That might serve as an incentive.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 I'd bet that McNeil doesn't actually think there are any particular concerns with the vaccine. He's just against it because fuck you, that's why.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 The rumored names I heard include JD Davis, Conforto and James McCann. I think Nimmo too, now that I ponder it. Get the shot ya dopes

Lunkheads. All of them too embarrassed to even say it. Aaron Judge and his "I'm not gonna get into that." Like you don't have the fortitude to admit that you are too dumb to get vaccinated.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 i could understand not wanting to get the shot midseason, what with the owie arm thing happening. i'm sure as a pitcher that could fuck you up if you tried to work through it. and it might maybe mess up your swing, i guess. so it would probably take you out of the lineup for a few days...but my kids got their shots and all had basketball games either that day or the next, so maybe man up. regardless, there's no excuse for any of these babies to not have gotten the shot in the offseason. and if they didn't, then fuck'em.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I had never heard of Kyrie Irving until this thread was posted. It's hard to believe that this has been going on as long as it has. The Nets can't be okay with this. Is he getting paid for all the games he's missed because of foolish stubbornness?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 One of the strengths of the NBA is that it's a star driven sport. That said, one of the great weaknesses of the NBA is that it's a star driven sport to the point where stars get to call a lot of the shotsand tend to skate on being called out on things. So basically the Nets are OK with it to the extent that they can't make him get the shots and some of the league's other stars, themselves mostly vaccinated, back him up. 'Free Kyrie' has popped up on tee shirts worn by not just teammates but opposing players, as if he's being forced to sit out due to something not of his own making. It should also be pointed out that even before all this he had a tendency to intermittently sit out games for seemingly no reason and has stated that he doesn't believe the earth is round.Benjamin Grimm wrote:Is he getting paid for all the games he's missed because of foolish stubbornness?I believe he is not which, given the salaries of NBA stars these days, is only costing him tens of millions of dollars.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Nimmo, he may be a creationist.Mets could have a traveling team, ugh.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I would love to know which Mets players are potentially affected by this. (And I hope we won't have to find out.)Let's say it's five players. Does that mean that the Mets will effectively have a 21-man roster for every game they play in New York City? That's untenable. And what if it's eight players? Or twelve? What could the Mets possibly do, other than a quick overhaul of the roster. Someone like JD Davis can be disposed of easily enough. James McCann less so, because of the position he plays. And Brandon Nimmo? I really don't know.

I really don't know.I have so many thoughts.-If the article from the Post you linked to earlier is correct, then it is about half the guys like Fman said. I'm guessing that's players on the 40 at any given moment from last year? I would love clarification on that.-The article says "both teams are aware", but I'm hoping the Mets have planned for this? This can't have been a surprise given the Nets situation.-With so many 2021 guys not returning, my hope is that some of those guys were the hardest-headed anti-vaxxers. That would be smart, right? Right??-If there are any steadfast no-poke dudes left, the Mets have to be shopping them hard, right? Missing 82 games BECAUSE FREEDOM won't help the team win, will piss off some teammates, and even the Trumpiest of Mets fans will eventually get mad if the losses pile up because selfishness is really at the core of all of this. For all the star power on the Nets, they're a just-above .500 basketball team with a losing record at home.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 My guess is that the Mets' FO is full of dudes and dudettes that are all hoping, and perhaps lobbying with the powers that be at City Hall, to get these rules all lifted in the next few weeks before Opening Day. Between dropping rates and the fact that its an outdoor activity, I can see the case they'd be attempting to make. "Look how well our fielders have socially distanced from each other!"
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I'm kinda surprised this wasn't part of the recent CBA discussion.

Right now we're just going to focus on baseball, we'll see where all that stuff lands. If it comes time we'll address that stuff.”Nimmo declined to say if he was vaccinated. On Tuesday, The Post reported only about 55 percent of the Mets players were vaccinated at one point last season. Nimmo didn't dispute that figure. That's a good plan. Just wait until Opening Day is imminent and then "see where all that stuff lands". No sense being proactive and, like, getting vaccinated or something.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 And it's not going to be looking too mayoral to give baseball players a pass whenhundreds or thousands (I don't know which) of city employees lost their jobs due to vaccination requirements - then saying it doesn't apply to clubhouse loungers.
