bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 WTF? He wanted to stay. He was great last season. Are the Wilpons running the show again?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 I never got a distinct impression he was a "I wanted to stay in NYC" kinda guy. Great year, probably won't happen again, but it amps up the pressure on the Mets to find a good lefty out-getter.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Mostly, the Mets have been successful when forced to do that. Too bad they've been forced to.Seventeen million. Wowzo.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Loup was insulted at not winning the Schaefer Reliever of the Year Award. And so he left town.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Yeah, I'd pass at that amount too. Thanks for the memories, Loup.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Classic Alderson. Bemoan the price of everybody and then get bargain guys that don't work and wonder why you lose.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 At this point in the off-season, losing Loup is a bigger blow to the Mets than losing Syndergaard, imho.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 $17 million! Good for him, but relievers are a crapshoot.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 I have a feeling that tomorrow we're going to read that Pete Alonso has signed with the Angels.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Yeah, Aaron Loup isn't irreplaceable the way Syndergaard is. Clearly Alderson thought the relievers he signed were worth that. But he's got a long history of saying things like "Was surprised at the market for that guy" when he misses out one someone they were tepidly in on. It's okay to have a rough budget, but if you don't adjust it based on the market, you're just saving money for the owner at the expense of the team and fans. (and the players note this. Labor issues incoming)
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 It will be interesting to see how Sandy replaces Loup's production. I agree with letting him walk for that kinda money. Especially since I don't know that Aaron Loup is the best guy to replace Aaron Loup. Hopefully our beefed up nerd department can find the next Loup.
