Willets giving no quarter and no fucks.

Yeah, he pounded out consecuguesses, but I didn't declare them off-limits. Plus, he came in late and got the stuff everybody else missed. I'm declaring Willets Point the winner, and while I don't have any appropriate prizes on hand, I'm happy to award him with my respect and good opinion.

Hand to the last team you want him to go to--the Nationals. He's now their closer which is what he wanted (he can close and be a FA again next year). I guess he also wanted to play for a second-rate organization with third-rate fans rather than deal with the pressure of New York so F him. (BTW, the Mets would have had Hand if the ownership change happened one week sooner.)

I realize that it's a silly notion, but I tend to feel like Washington is where relievers go to blow up their careers.

Toronto traded for him, waived him and he is finally a NY Met.

IIRC, he wanted to be a closer and then re-enter the FA market with that label so he rejected the Mets offer and went to WSH to be their closer. He wasn't very good so they traded him to TOR where he failed again as a closer. He is now a Met and not a closer.

Pros:

-wily vet with history of success

-fastball velo up 2 MPH from last year!

-BABIP is low at .254

-good distraction!

Cons:

-ineligible for playoffs when the Mets win every game this month

-K/9 down from 11.86 last year to 8.24 this year

-xERA, FIP, xFIP and SIERA are all worse than his ERA

-expensive audition for 2022

Hand & Bauer, two of the more talked about potential signings last winter, both wound up being bullets-dodged cases when they weren't signed - albeit for different reasons.

Somebody had him fix what hadn't been broken.
