A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Subtitle: The JD Davis Conundrum.https://nypost.com/2019/04/10/mets-giving-todd-frazier-some-reps-at-shortstop/Nooz outlets are reporting that Frazier is taking reps at shortstop so the Mets can see if he can be a reliable backup for Rosario. He played 9 innings yesterday (4 at short), so presumably this decision isn't too far off. Why not try it out, Mets? Good on ya.With regard to third base, JD's been a little frustrating throwing the ball, but I think I'd still rather not see Frazier take a bunch of his ABs (or McNiel's, for that matter). I bet BVW doesn't really want to demote JD after trading youngins for him. I'm not psyched to demote Dom Smith either. He's been a great bat off the bench and is solid late-inning D guy. But maybe he's the wisest choice here. Frazier new bench bat/glove guy?All of this depends on whether Frazier embarrasses himself at shortstop or not. What would you do? What do you think BVW does?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I would trade Frazier to a team that wants an out-of-position backup shortstop.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I'm always up for subtracting relief pitchers.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Me, I go back in time and un-sign Frazier and solve all our problems at once
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Can't send Davis down, and unless you really think Dom needs everyday reps, he's not going anywhere either. Peterson's logical, but so is anyone else in the bullpen, who are all terrible. That said, Guillorme is the odd man out here.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 How unexciting is the prospect of Frazier's return? Voted Guilllorme.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I'm fine with Frazier as the backup SS. Presumably, he'll only be needed to fill in if Rosario gets hurt. And if that happens, we can get someone down from Syracuse pretty quickly. If Rosario needs a blow, then we can just rest him whenever Vargas starts since we're not fucking winning anyway.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Author Posted April 10, 2019 I can't believe JD hasn't logged any pro SS reps.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 If you think he's shaky at 3rd then SS isn't going to be any prettier
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Davis and Frazier fill the same niche, so I don't really see room for them both. Plus McNeil might have more experience at short than either of them. I'm not against giving Dom Smith regular ABs in Syracuse, but he deserves better too. And our pitching staff is one injury away from trouble. I think a trade is necessary

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Sure, but the one with options is the one who appears to have a better chance of helping the team. There's the possibility of playing Frazee for a few weeks just to showcase him and demonstrate he's healthy (presuming he is), so he can be moved. Maybe they can get an overpriced reliever for him.Maybe Mel Rojas!
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Ah, Mel "the smell" Rojas. Such fond memories. In his defense, making a return visit from Bobby Bonilla seem appealing was a remarkably difficult accomplishment.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I'd say Davis is the odd man out. Frazier returning doesn't excite me at all. Guillorme can play 2nd/3rd/SS so I think he has to stay; he goes out when and if Lowrie ever comes back.Frazier as a backup SS is a fever dream cooked up in hookah rooms. It'll never happen.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I think Frazier takes Guillorme's spot and they just hope that Rosario can stay on the field for every inning of every game. And Fraze gets the same pinch-spot start at 1B and 3B to spell the good players. Cause really, what has Guillorme done besides catch a bat in PSL?

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Someone has to be sooner than Frazier's available. Gagnon up, Guillorme down.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Maybe McNeil shouldn't be trying to be an outfielder. Maybe Davis shouldn't either.Maybe Frazier should.
