Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 It doesn't matter how old, bitter and cynical i get, Opening Day is always magical. Spring begins, and hope springs eternal in the human breast.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I have a dumbass meetings all day at work then have to motor out for school meet-the-teacher crap. I don;t know if I can participate today
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Mets fan Dario's not consumed one iota of baseball information since the World Series. I'd say he's in for some surprises today.http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2019/03/27/mets-world-series-news-no-fan/http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2019/03/27/mets-world-series-news-no-fan/
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Hoping I can actually tune in. I'll miss Gunsmoke, but oh well

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 woohoo! opening day!I'm home with a sick minimm, so i can actually watch some of it. unfortunately, he has a doctor's appointment at 1:30, so i also get to miss some of it. sigh....but at least i saw the cano caboom.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Other than that blast by Cano ol' blue eye (or is that eye white?) was pretty much on. K'd the side.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 deGrom is struggling. He's gotta get his pitches working. 2 on, 2 out, 1-0 Mets.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Well, he didn't give up any runs. Now settle down Jake.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I knew this thread woyld get confused with the IGT.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 deGrom says I can do that too.Is this not the IGT?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 You know what I can count on? Overreacting on Opening Day. Like clockwork. Every. Single. Year.Live and die with each pitch like it's a post-season game. Extrapolate the day's performance over the entire season. Looks like Cano has plenty in the tank after all. Maybe Alonso wasn't quite ready for the prime time. Conforto 0 for 4 with 2K's. You wonder if he's ever going to live up to his potential.A loss means moping around for 2 days. Wondering if we'll be out of the race by Memorial Day. A win means playoffs. What's our Magic Number?Year after year, regardless of my age.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Opening day means cutting school, cold-assed fans, low scoring around the league (except in Montreal), and a Mets win.And a sucky off-day.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Missed the whole thing as I was flying from the West Coast. Mrs Lefty DVR'd it and I just watched the compressed version. Good day all around and gotta say that was an awesome play by Cano to keep them off the board. If that didn't work it could have been a whole different ballgame. If Robinson keeps up like this I may have to overlook the MFY stink on him. Doncha know.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I was once at a game at Shea when none other than Barry Bonds ran into a Triple Play under similar circumstances.Barry was on 3rd in a 1st & 3rd situation (no outs obviously) and decided not to break until the relay throw was headed to 1st.The play at home was closer than this one but BB became the 3rd out
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Heading down to DC tomorrow morning to see Lefty Jr and take in Game #2. The missus will be rocking her Syndergaard replica jersey. Hoping to keep the Nats off the scoreboard for the whole weekend.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 You got a place to eat?I'd recommend Las Cruces but it closed 20 years ago.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 He's near a Wagshal's where you can get sandwiches to die for. Our go-to brunch place is Cafe Deluxe on Wisconsin (try the cornflake-encrusted French Toast!) And Politics and Prose is right next to Comet Pizza, so that's probably our post-ballgame Saturday night.Nats ballpark food is not on a par with Citifield's. But there's a more relaxed vibe in the house.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 One of my Facebook acquaintances at the game was complaining about substandard service at the concessions today. She's sorta a I wanna see your manager type, however.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I've got to imagine that concession service is generally a shit show on opening day. A sellout. Baptism of fire for the new staff. Equipment turned on for the first time in months. You crack open the inventory to find out that you have 60,000 packets of mustard but none of ketchup (and, strangely, 1,000 packets of duck sauce).Plus it's cold as as the grave so an inordinate number of people are going to be hanging on the concourse just to get out of the breeze and rub against somebody. They'll also be looking for hot cocoa and shit like that doesn't sell the rest of the year, which is unavailable except at no more than one or two select spots, and they're making it at a 1,000 miles-per-hour to meet the demand, so who knows it's gonna come out?And you're looking for warmth from everything. So you buy a "hot" pretzel, and you're delighted when it's handed to you and it warms your frozen fingers, but when you get back to your seat, it's cold, staler than a Bob Hope routine, and you're feeling rope-a-doped that you waited on line for 10 minutes and then forked over $7.Get into the park early, hit the most reliable concessionaire that you know from previous visits (at Nats Park, it's Ben's Chili Bowl), and count yourself lucky if it's edible.
