  1. Daryl Boston is on first base with two outs. Charlie O'Brien, The Slowest Man In America, hits a sharp grounder to second. They force Boston at second; inning over. Charlie O, barely makes it twenty feet down the line before turning right and heading back to the dugout to don his gear. How does he count as a "left on" when he never got there? It's not right.
  2. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Two outs, runner on first. Batter grounds into a force out. There's one man left on base. It shouldn't matter (as far as LOB statistics go) whether the play was at second base or at first, it's still an LOB. No it isn't. The batter did not reach first base, so how could he be left there?
  3. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I show the batter reaching first on a fielder's choice. In the runner's box, I'd put the 6-4 in the second base position, maybe with an FO next to it. But that runner doesn't get credit for first base. I just put "FC" in the box, then mark the runner out at whatever base it happens. I made my own scorebook on Excel to fit my needs and brought it to Staples to have it bound; it has no inning numbers across the top, so I don't have to cross out numbers and make a mess. It also allows me to keep all my games from one year in the same book.
  4. Ah, COME ON, Blue! Why are the umpires all drinking the same Suck Juice?
  5. If anyone goes off the 40, it'd have to be Lindstrom. He's back down in St. Lucie and he still can't find the plate.
  6. Then why even talk about it? Let's just close up shop, shut down the Pool, and go be monks.
  7. I don't think anyone's taking that as gospel; FK was just reporting what was said on the radio, in case anyone was interested. He even started with a "for what it's worth," fwiw.
  8. Jose Lima, funnier Jose Lima, better face shot?
  9. He's much scarier animated; that picture must be old. I had never seen him until he was on Today a few years back promoting his book, and I was startled by his appearance.
  10. There's a guy -- on the open market -- who won 31 games and struck out 400 guys in the last two seasons. He costs nothing more than a few million dollars; no prospects, no future stars, just dollars. And I know it ain't my money, but Fred and Jeff will sell plenty of orange-and-blue CLEMENS 22 shirts once he starts winning games and striking out Braves and Phillies and Marlins. So I'd say get him the hell in here and see what it would take. Look -- I hate the fucker too. But if he's going to help the team win games, then I'd say he has to be worth a look.

  12. Specifically, your PIAZZA 31 footie pajamas.
  13. I don't know what's more surprising... that they actually printed Roger Cedeno shirts, that someone bought one, or that you'd actually wear it for something other than painting the house.
  14. Post it somewhere so we can download it. Edgy? Kase?
  15. When we made the cards, I thought about numbering it #297 on the back and slotting it in there, but nobody would get the joke except me. So I numbered it as card #1 instead.
  16. Cooby's right. I sense an ugly two days.
  17. "Wa" is a great book; one of my favorite baseball books.
  18. This story's actually been around a while in the card community; it just hit the major media because of the guy who pulled five of the cards. I'm hoping the market bottoms out on this one, because I was hoping to complete the set for MiniWolf, and it's got a big Card #297-sized hole in it right now. Topps knew what they were doing here; this kind of "mistake" seems too obvious. FWIW, Topps screwed up a lot in this year's set; lots of typos, mixed-and-matched Photoshopped team uniforms and card border colors, halfassed card selection, screwed up photos, etc. Somewhat of a disappointment, methinks. But hell, I bought it anyway.
  19. Just "Mets 40th Anniversary Commemorative CD". Sponsored by SONY & WFAN. Other than that, no logos or other info.
  20. Because reporters would be fired if they mentioned it.
  21. We got a recent "new baby" gift from one of the libraries my wife works with: a basket full of Mets stuff. My eyes watered listening to some of these great calls from my youth. Outstanding, outstanding, outstanding. Go find it and buy it.
  22. Mets win! Mets win! Mets win!
