  1. A nice chorus of "Pedroooooooooooooo" greets Mr. Martinez when he comes to the plate. Oh, wait, those were boos.
  2. Who is this Matsui character? Is he some sort of savior from a foreign land? I've never heard of him.
  3. ESPN wrote: NEW YORK -- Four minor league pitchers were suspended 50 games each by the commissioner's office Tuesday for violating baseball's minor league drug program, the first penalties since the sport toughened its rules during the offseason. Two of the pitchers were in the Cincinnati Reds' organization: Ramon Ramirez and Justin Mallet. Also suspended were Waner Mateo of the New York Mets and Ryan Rafferty of the Kansas City Royals. None has ever pitched in the majors. Mallet was penalized for testing positive for a drug of abuse. The others tested positive for performance-enhancing substances. The penalty this year for an initial positive test was increased from 15 games to 50 for players with minor league contracts. For major-leaguers, the punishment was lengthened from 10 days to 50 games. There were 81 suspensions last season for violations of the minor league drug program. I can't find any Waner Mateo anywhere in the Mets system, so I don't know who this guy is or where he came from. But I guess we know where he's going. edit: Found him in the Hagerstown Suns thread. Feel free to delete this thread if any of the mods feel like it.
  4. Problem with Lambin is that he's not on the 40, so you'd have to make a move to add him. (Of course, you could dump Valentin, obviously.) I'd think they'd rather Lambin get regular ABs in AAA than rot on the major league bench.
  5. It's a terrible curse that some of us bear, but we do it well.

  7. I think we can stop whispering now.

  9. WP = Michael Kay ?!?!
  10. Maybe he wanted to practice pitching around guys, in case he needs to do it later in the season.
  11. He probably wanted work, and once he starts throwing, you get him in the game, even if you're up by six. No reason warming him up for nothing.
  12. You know who doesn't look like Kenny Rogers? Kenny Rogers. When he was on Idol a few weeks back, he looked way different. I know he's older now, but his hair is short and his beard is trimmed to just a van dyke. Weird.
  13. Brian Bannister, your 2006 National League Rookie of the Year.
  14. Rotblatt wrote: LoDuca couldn't throw out Nick Johnson? That's a little embarassing. My grandma could throw out Nick Johnson. And she just had rotator cuff surgery.
  15. Brilliant, brilliant work. Great find.
  16. I always wanted to do Banner Day as a kid, but they got rid of it before I got old enough to do it. (I have to say... that shea butter stuff they give away is outstanding. We went on Mother's Day a few years ago, and got a great tote bag -- which we still use as Peanut's travel bag -- and some of the Palmer's Shea Butter, which we swear by. It doesn't leave your hands all greasy like most lotions; I even have a bottle in my desk at work.)
  17. Both came up as 23-24 year old middle infielders heralded for outstanding defensive range and handed a starting job on Opening Day, despite the fact that neither one could hit their way out of a paper bag, and couldn't draw a walk if you spotted him three balls and a pitchout on the fourth pitch. Ordonez sucked the Mets dry for $20,000,000 on the basis of one play on Opening Day 1996 and one home run every September. Will Anderson Hernandez do the same? I'm not a fan of Hernandez. Discuss.
  18. Hey, Yankee fans: Suck it.

  20. I always thought "Cocky" by Kid Rock would be a good closer entrance song, but it curses like a motherfucker.
  21. Does Franco really still wear the old Keith Hernandez earflapless helmet when he bats? That rules.
  22. I swear! Look! I married a Playmate!
  23. DirecTV once shot a man just to see him die.
  24. I'll take a second one if Zvon really doesn't want his.
