  1. i saw storks so you don't have to. storks used to deliver babies. then one of them didn't, so they all stopped and turned into amazon prime instead. oh, the one baby they didn't deliver? they adopted her (reluctantly). because of course. now it's her 18th birthday, and the boss stork tells underling stork to fire her. hilarity(?) ensues as, instead, she mistakenly makes a baby sister for a little boy who wants a baby brother with ninja skills because his parents don't spend enough time with him. using the magical baby making machine. as you do. things happen, there's chases and jokes and puns and wolves. and then... [bigpurple:3qfku2j2]spoiler alert!!![/bigpurple:3qfku2j2] to win the day, the orphan girl makes about a million babies at the throw of a switch, answering all the baby delivery requests that'd been piling up since the storks stopped delivering babies. [u:3qfku2j2]18 years ago.[/u:3qfku2j2] it's really quite horrifying if you actually think about it. [bigpurple:3qfku2j2]end spoiler alert!!![/bigpurple:3qfku2j2] the movie promises that in the preceding 18 years, babies have been delivered by other means, but misses out on offering up a clever alternative. and therein lies the problem for the movie. it's a weird universe, with opportunity for something new and clever. but instead, it just kinda falls flat, like a delivery box ready for the recycling heap. the movie damn near bored minimm to tears. we stuck it out because we'd paid good money for the dang thing. don't make our mistake. don't see this movie if you have to pay for it. i guess it was harmless, and we didn't have to answer any baby-making questions after. the only one we did field was, "that's not where babies come from is it?" "what do you think?" "no - they're just being silly" "whew" i'd score it above angry birds, if that helps. from the previews, i thought it could have promise. it never quite took flight.
  2. against lefty pitchers this year... campbell has hit 0.325/0.212/0.537 in 40 plate appearances and conforto has hit a measly 0.170/0.125/0.295 in 53 plate appearances d'arnaud has hit a meager 0.266/0.190/0.455 in 64 plate appearances de aza has hit a meek 0.313/0.268/0.581 in 48 plate appearances but the kellies, johnson and ty, have hit... kelly johnson 0.296/0.500/0.796 in 27 plate appearances (for the mets, but 0.273/0.434/0.707 overall in 38 pa) ty kelly 0.500/0.474/0.974 in 24 plate appearances so.. yeah... wtf - eric campbell...? i guess you would look to the 0.325 obp as the reason to go with the guy... he did have 5 BBs against lefties, and you're hoping to get on any which way you can. but maybe going with johnson, who may not walk but does seem capable of at least contacting the lefty-thrown ball with ill intent, would have been the better play there... gosh.. looking at the vs.lefty splits... how did this team even sniff the playoffs!?
  3. on august 19th, we had a 6.7% chance to make the playoffs. then we lost degrom and matz. and then we had a wild card game, in our home stadium, that went scoreless to the ninth. you're goddamn right i'm satisfied with this season. with everything we played without this season, we were fortunate to have finished above .500. hell, it would've been all too easy for this team to crumble and fade, but it... uh... battled. hard. to be upset for not having more seems just a wee bit greedy. yeah, at the start of the season, we were eyeing a return to the world series. but where we went from there, to where we ended up...! i'll fuckin' take it! go cubs!
  4. Holy shit that's terrible
  5. see, we need to keep the pixie dust off of opposing outfielders so they stop robbing home runs, dangit!
  6. i was surprised that we didn't have a thread for ST Beyond on here... there's a big dropoff from undiscovered country to the search for spock. it's almost as if you should insert a blank tier in there.
  7. i am thoroughly ok with this, and quietly hopeful that it actually develops into something. because tebow is a seemingly genuinely good dude who does not deserve all the bullshit that people give him for being a seemingly genuinely good dude.
  8. how about met fans in popular culture... http://www.hardballtimes.com/still-pitching-and-still-fascinating-at-69/ featuring a photo of one of our own:
  9. 6. giant - mays?
  10. 4. arod.
  11. this season is difficult - it's not even a race! muddy chickens hit big-time on all his draft picks, it seems. at least in the past, there's been two teams battling it out. or at least not so much of a gap. this year, wow... i had been hoping to transition into being a buyer if my pitching ever straightened out, but kershaw going down and staying down has ended that fantasy. boo.
  12. metsmarathon wrote: with 3 starters on the DL, and 2 utterly ineffective, i'm running a 3-man rotation right now... thank god for clayton kershaw! so... uh... about that kershaw fellow...
  13. yeesh. this is not terribly good...
  14. [bigpurple:31c462w6]panic!!!!![/bigpurple:31c462w6]
  15. I'm at the game today. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and kids out there. And to all the mothers that helped make it happen.
  16. Section 436 is where the party is at. I'm just sayin'
  17. This will be the umm's first mets game! Come seek me out for all the red-headed glory!
  18. Resolved: just fucking hit utley already, damnit.
  19. jeez, and i'm just barely closing in on 11,000...
  20. so, what about adam and drake laroche?
  21. with 3 starters on the DL, and 2 utterly ineffective, i'm running a 3-man rotation right now... thank god for clayton kershaw!
  22. o far this early season, my team is struggling a bit. there's just no power, and my pitching has been uncharacteristically spotty as well. i took to the strategy of sitting my expensive slumpers, only to see miggy smack two homers two nights ago, and mccutch knock in three of his own last night. of course. but it's early, so far, and my guys should start to get back to the backs of their baseball cards. or else there's a fire-sale coming!
  23. I'm trying to update my spreadsheet to more automatically cull data from the box scores, and working out the kinks is taking a bit more time than I would like. but it's getting there, and should allow me to start participating more shortly. I'm also tightening some of the knobs on the 'bot. he was using the wrong denominator in the first game, resulting in teensy tiny votes. silly robot.
  24. Players are a wee bit wider than they used to be, too, eh? I FUCKING love the racing stripes!
