  1. wow. i'm behind the times.
  2. can't find anything about cory lidle being involved in this crash, but did find the following link: http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060910/SPORTS01/609100378/-1/NEWS01 ]Posted Sunday, September 10, 2006 Fly guy The Phillies weren't enamored of pitcher Cory Lidle's hobby of flying a four-seat airplane. But now that Lidle is with the Yankees, it's an especially sensitive topic. In 1979, Yankees catcher Thurman Munson died when a plane he was piloting crashed near his home in Canton, Ohio. Lidle earned his pilot's license last offseason, and has insisted his plane is safe. "The whole plane has a parachute on it," he told The New York Times. "Ninety-nine percent of pilots that go up never have engine failure, and the 1 percent that do usually land. "But, if you're up in the air and something goes wrong, you pull that parachute, and the whole plane goes down slowly." also, there's nothing in teh accompanying newsday article about lidle. only this, at 4:37pm: ]The Federal Aviation Administration said it was too early to determine what type of aircraft was involved.
  3. that's why we made fun of them at Stevens (Hoboken) Institute of Technology. the "hoboken" is typically insterted for the sake of humor.
  4. wow. i mean, having a 60% chance of something is no guarantee, but this model, on october 3rd, had the following picks: yankees 76% twins 70% dodgers 58% padres 62% the odds of getting all four wrong, based on those numbers.. is .... um... if i remember my probability and statistics class right... 24% x 30% x 42% x 38% = 1.12% 99 times out of a hundred, he wouldnt be this wrong if the model worked. now, there's a chance that this year was that one time in a hundred, but i'm thinking... he might want to go in and tweak some of those assumptions...
  5. I figure there’s a 20% chance of a jilted lover figuring on an innovative and unforgettable way to exact revenge on an ex.
  6. ya s'pose the conspiracy theorists'll be all over this one if that apartment building doesn't collapse? while on a smaller scale, strikingly similar imagery to the last time. thankfully so much less dire, i imagine. and hope.

  8. i find it funny that in every other facet of yankeedom, regular season performance and merely getting into the postseason is ignored. its a given that the yankees will get to the postseason, so any performances rendered in getting them there are to be ignored, and that hte true measure of any yankee is performance in the postseason. why is it that suddenly, joe torre of all people, is immune to this level of scrutiny? he got them to the postseason. hell, if arod managed the team, they'd've gotten to the playoffs. but for 6 years, he's failed in the postseason, and therefore he's failed in his primary task as manager of hte yankees. why do the same yankee fans who ruthlessly skewer all other comers skate over this inconvenient truth?
  9. i still can't answer any of those trivia questions... can i still hang out here anyways?
  10. would now be a good time to mention that new york has its own share of poached teams? [cough]yankees[cough]
  11. ="Zvon"] even the umpires are happy for us!
  12. and yeah, i'll happily take arod off the yankee's payroll, if they're willing to pay a sizeable portion of his remaining contract for us.
  13. please. it doesnt take a steinbrenner to notice that torre can't get that team to play for him when the chips are down. after this postseason, torre should be fired. no matter how many championships he won last millenium.

  18. y'know, it strikes me as pretty classless that torre and the yankees would've announced to the media that arod was to bat 8th before ever telling him. in fact, everything this year that's gone on with arod has been classless. has he come up small, yep. have the yankees even moreso? hell yeah. class my ass. and that fakey derek jeter too.
  19. y'know, there should be a hold statistic, timmy...
  20. not that anything right now is making me say this... but why hte hell doesnt fox have any of their fance k-zone type graphics going for this game, or any of those handy dandy overhead shots available to show off those wacky strikeornotstrike pitches in and around the dodger-scoring innings? i'd take one or the other. but none? on fox? no graphics? sheesh. what is the world coming to...?
  21. he may be a real met, but he'll never be a real yankee.
  22. i hate when the local news talks to local sports fans prior to playoff games. yeah, they're all mets fans, but they're freekin' idiots. i'm glad sny doesnt do that.
  23. i like any time keith needs white out to fix his scorecard.
  24. the flip side is that maybe the demand is so great in those other cities that the fans actually keep their merchandise instead of flipping it for a quick buck.
