  1. somthing about hte name rich rundles amuses me.
  2. the posting fee doesn't count against the salary cap does it? somehow that has to factor into the discussion in some exceeedingly small way.
  3. Yancy Street Gang wrote: ="Rob Neyer"]because I suspect they'd love to have a Japanese star of their own. What kind of a reason is that? marketing, kinda like ichiro and matsui presumably allow the M's and the mfy's (potential) revenue stream = (sorta) good reason.
  4. not that they should be at the top of the list of pitchers for next year, but what about ted lilly or mark buehrle? um, the rest of the pitching field doesnt really interest me, aside form the bigger names that are already out there.
  5. despite all the evidence to the contrary, the one thing that tells me that this is no big deal is the fact that tony larussa isn't today kicking and screaming and jumping up and down about the foreign substance. either that or kenny rogers has some dirt on tony larussa as well as his own hand, and is therefore able to keep him quiet. if the opposing manager has no problem with the smudge, how can i?
  6. i think the point with the BP analysis was that 7 days of endy + 1 at bat of cliffy > 7 days of cliffy + 1 at bat (or so) of endy, for this series. basically, if cliff was going to be on the roster anyways, the mets were better off with him on the bench, than with him performing as he had been, when the alternative was endy. its a whole 'nother argument whether cliff should've been on the roster at all. and what vic said, too...
  7. wouldn't it be cool if teams could buy draft picks? like, if team A pays double what team B pays, then team A gets twice as many picks. and then that money gets spread equitably amongst the draftees. wouldn't that be cool? yeah, its been a long day, and i think my brain is starting to hallucinate.
  8. good point! a root for the tigers is a root for the DH! boo, DH!
  9. so, if i understand that correctly... its 14 mil if the team chooses to retain him, 7 mil if he chooses to remain with the team, or 3 mil if neither party wishes to see tom glavine on the 2007 mets right??
  10. this was fun. lets do it again, but longer and even better, next year.
  11. i wouldn't mind seeing us bring in soriano to butcher second, with an outfield of beltran in center, cliff / endy in left, and green / milledge in right. that's deep and fairly robust, imo, with decent growth potential in milledge. i'm not ready to give up on him yet, unless htere's a trade out there for a darned fine pitcher.
  12. willie's balls grew two sizes when he left perez in there. there should, from this point forward, be no more talk of willie's (or anyone's) balls.
  13. with no real rooting interest, i go with what i go with. i just think it'd make for better talk radio, really, if the cards won. really, i don't care what yankee fans (generalization) think. i just care that i have to hear their (generealization) idiocy when i choose to listen to sports talk radio. the less idiocy i have to hear, no matter the source or subject, the better.
  14. i want the team that beat the mets to be the team that beat the team that beat the yankees.
  15. hey, i'm kinda liking ours right now...
  16. the next person who writes "its your duty, judy" will forever become the subject of my e-ire. don't try me.
  17. or at least the gapper.
  18. i'd keep duque (what's his contractual status anyways) just as an insurance policy, myself. Pelfry & Humber almost surely will not be ready for prime time, and it gives us some backup in case maine and/or perez and/or bannister regress. and unfortunately, i don't see heilman making the leap into the rotation. well, maybe. the only way i don't see bringing back el duque as a good move is if we bring in two good veterans instead of one. and there's just no way i hold open a slot for pedro. if he comes back next year, we deal with it then. i'm not spending all of next year thinking "when petey comes back, we'll get this rotation straightened out!"
  19. i retrospect, the emotional reward of seeing cliffy win the game all gimpy-like skewed my perception into overvaluing that as compared to the risk of something else happening - a something else that was almost certain to result in an out, and could have resulted in a pair of outs. we had good speed on the bases. we could easily have put up handyandy, i think, to bunt, and with second and third and one out, reyes then becomes a real threat. i felt the whole game like the first base line was screaming out for a metly bunt, and that would've been the perfect opportunity. but it woulda been so cool for cliffy to come through. heilman vs. wagner is easy. stick with heilman for that inning, as neither offense is really getting much done, and there's a good chance of extra innings wherein wagner is less well suited. and its not like a second inning of heilman is something you'd typically consider riskier than a wagner inning. i'm cool with that move. yeah, you can partly blame willie for going fort he gusto with cliffy there, but in the end, we still had plenty of chances afterwards. just didnt get it done.

  21. the first four are easy. somewhere in teh back of my head is a whisper that zambrano has some inherent upside, but i think i'll be shouting that whisper down for a while. maybe we can trade him to the yankees for arod... they're hot after zambrano, right?
  22. at least the ads are better than the floating-tommy-head that pops up at the bottom of the screen and tells me that we all live for this. those just wierd me the hell out. can we somehow convince SNY to bid for the playoff package next year? they do so much better a job of putting on a baseball game than fox, it isn't even funny. espn, visually better, too. but they have joe morgan, so...
  23. i am a geek. the flow of marathon voting during the game. note how perez actually earned more than 6 points by my system, but was unable to legally receive the extra 0.3 points. were it a win, i'd've reassigned those 0.3 since its a loss, i'm not so much motivated to do so. i should open my system up to peer review during the offseason. wouldnt that be super-cool!
  24. Perez 6.0 Bradford 0.9 Chavez 1.0 Valentin 0.5 Wright 1.0 Beltran 0.3
