  1. i'd love to see points per game, points per sip, and games per sip (or would that be the other way around?) stats. because i'm greedy and cannot be sated by the sublime cards.

  5. for the third year out of five, i have won the mofo fantasy baseball keeper league. i seem to win every other year. sadly, in prior years, i never received any of my chamionship booty. the first year, i had no address info on my yahoo profile. the next season i updated my address, but finished in teh bottom of the league. when i won in the third year of the league, i had recently moved, but never updated my address. last year i finished dead last. this year, i finished again in first. but now i've got a correct address. i can't wait to get either my bobblehead or t-shirt loot. halfway through the season, i was in 10th place out of 12 teams. i rocketed back into 2nd place for the playoffs, and carried that through to take the title. all while carrying brandon webb on the DL since the dawn of the season. i've only got one stud on my roster in pujols and maybe javy vazquez. the rest of my team looks kindof like a bobby valentine outfield. i'm in great shape to suck next year, continuing a rather intriguing trend.
  6. i like being challenged on my voting. it forces me to relook at my assumptions and formulae, and see if there's something i'm missing and can better quantify. i'm actually surprised i don't get challenged more. could be that nobody cares what i think. m.e.t.b.o.t. seems to get challenged every now and again, and while he's literally quite the pushover, i think he stands his ground fairly well in the figurative sense. i've worked with the little fellow to incorporate fielding miscues into his voting, and i think we've got an approach for incorporating good defensive plays as well. there will be some spring training tinkering this year i think. baserunning mistakes and the like may be outside his range, however.
  7. good heavens, i've gotten derailed in my schaeffer voting so easily this year...
  8. despite all of bucket's excellent points, i cannot root for the phils here. the rockies are too darned underdoggy. though, those vest-y uniforms they choose to wear... maybe i should change my vote...
  9. I'm glad I've done as well as I have, having lost my first two draft picks (reyes y beltran) for most of the year. I don't think I would've unseated the hub, but I'd've maybe made a better race of it.

  13. so, uh, what are the external options available to us at short?
  14. i think its both classy and clueless. its classy because its a nice thing to do, in recognition of a great accomplishment by a player who'll probably get into the hall of fame. its clueless, though, because there are plenty of mets fans who hate the yankees with an unbridled passion, and would look to this as yet another sign that the organization has its collective head lodged well within its own collective ass. personally, i don't give a shit that they've honored a yankee, but they had to know that there'd be a sizeable element that'd be upset by this. especially after this season.
  15. i imagine you're managing hte games instead of just letting them autoplay? i set up a 1991 league, did some roster magic, and basically let hte games play themselves while i assumed the role of gm. i finished around 0.500. this offseason, i've gone through a major overhaul of the roster, and am rocking a .750 winning percentage in early may. are you allowing for the creation of fictional players, or only real people? 'cos i've got fictional players being generated, and i think i might have a fake generation K making haste through my minor leagues. i figured i'd get a feel for the GM-duties before i tried to get more involved in the day-to-day managing. its friggin addictive though.
  16. man... i cannot figure out who everyone is in there...
  17. i didnt get that he was dumping on statistics. his arguments related to things which certainly could be measured, were someone so inclined. does ellsbury cause an increase in defensive errors when at bat? does he cause it when on the basepaths? does he reach base by beating out a double play (which still means he created an out, and erased the lead runner, which isn't terribly good)? he's arguing that there's more to leading off than just obp, and, more importantly, that by trying to get a guy to take more walks, you may end up with a guy who gets fewer hits.
  18. y'know, it kindof sounds like a fun project to see which among us can best rebuild the mets from 1991 moving forward...
  19. i'm sorry... i think even mex would've had a hard time with that play...
  20. Santos 3.6 Wright 1.7 Francoeur 1.6 Broadway 1.4 Thole 1.0 Reed 0.7
  21. Takahashi 0.8 Castillo 0.8 Thole 0.5 Stokes 0.5 Murphy 0.4
  22. the wifey and i are going to get ourselves a pair of batting practice helmets this friday, when we watch the metsies take on the natinals in an otherwise meaningless game!
  23. Redding 4.3 Castillo 1.4 Feliciano 1.4 Ahernandez 1.2 Schneider 0.9 Green 0.4
