  9. i'm sold. consider me on board the relegation/promotion system. i think it'd be shitloads of fun. and its also make much more sense than teams realigning their minor league affiliations every so often. and then there's the chance that some little scrub regional-independent league team, like the sussex skyhawks, working their way up into the bigtime! i'd send my resume to them first! i do like the idea of freeing the less-top-prospecty minor leaguers from the preconceived notions of their major league masters.
  10. if we're renting out out promising young players to these lesser teams, how do we concern ourselves with organizational philosophies such as emphasizing either patience at the plate, or the opposite. also, how does a team ensure that its young stud pitcher isn't overused? also, if a AAA team does sufficiently well, and is promoted, what becomes of the players they're renting from other teams? or is it cool, f'rinstance, for the mets to rent out a player to, say, the tampa rays? i assume we're retaining the 25 man active roster, and i guess we'd keep the 40 man roster, so each ML team would have 15 players that could be rented out. its kindof a cool idea, i think. the best part is that it would open up a ton of general manager positions, as now every minor league team would suddenly need one. surely one of us could land a gig somewhere!
  11. if we were to institute a relegation/promotion type system, would that not necessitate the abolishment of the minor league system as we know it today? if the minor league teams all became instantly unaffiliated, what would become of player development? i mean, its an interesting change, but its perhaps too world-changing for it to ever happen in the real world, i think. but considering the limitless power we've imagined for ourselves, i implore you to further flesh out this fantasy. you've abolished the draft and the dh, and scuttled each team's farm system. say a hot young third baseman finishes up high school next year, and decides to try his hand in professional baseball instead of going off to college. how does this new system work for him?

  13. and i barely caught the end of the inning, again cos i was hardly paying attention - but nice play there!
  14. i like this silent sixth thing, i think, though it kinda defeats the purpose of having the game on in the background of doing something else - i can no longer not pay attention and still follow along.

  17. griffey, then. pujols now.
  18. i've been poor in my schaeffer voting. i'm trying to catch up, for the purposes of my own insanity, but everytime i start making headway, my online resources seem to throw up on themselves. throught the good graces of the internet faeries, i hope today to have caught up, and resume contributions for the final, meaningless month of the season.
  19. lost in the story is the fact that the indian burial ground has clearly claimed another one... in other news, i'm kinda glad they're not having a "run to home plate" this year.
  20. allyssa milano...
  21. i'd love to know what trade could've been made that would've saved the season, aside, perhaps, for trading our broken players for the healthy versions of themselves. and then, of course, the persistent knock against omar that our farm system sucks would truly come to fruition.
  22. yeah, but i think that by signing dunn, that would've caused a butterfly to have flapped its wings ever so slightly differently, which would've generated somewhat slightly different winds that day, which would have tehn lofted different dust particles into the air, whcih would have interacted with teh sunlight in a different way, which would have opened up a rift in the fabric of space-time and caused the shovel to miss that one cache of pre-columbian relics, which would have prevented the mets from ever knowing that they had built citifield atop an indian burial ground, which would have prevented the weird indian voodoo shit that's befallen our beloved team. because as we all know, its only if you know you're building on an old indian burial ground that the indian ghosts fuck up your shit. they're not assholes, afterall.
  23. i think that not signing dunn (or teixeira), and signing ollie are the two biggest things omar had done wrong going into this season. but i do lend credence to the notion that castillo dropping that pop up was where it all went wrong.
