I adjusted my Santana total a bit yesterday, and may do so again today... largely because a lot of what he was doing was very fielding-dependent (not so many Ks or GBs); I'm thinking that might factor a lot into my pitcher voting this year, even if I'm not sure EXACTLY how just yet. see, that's why you need a giant, unweildy spreadsheet to help you figure out your voting.
  3. we just realized today that both of minimm's prospective godparents are yankee fans. i don't think i should be welcomed here anymore...

  9. well, he's in the minor league games so if they wanted to they could start him on the DL, but it could be retroactive like 10 days prior to the start of the season, or something like that. if he plays a major league exhibition game, and they want to start him on the dl, he has to be out the full 15 days from OD. has nothing, presumably, to do with babying or avoiding injury, and everything to do with maximizing their roster flexibility
  10. fuck the 8th, start mejia!
  11. mlb.com (and therefore mets.com) has video highlights from each game. if there's a defensive highlight, it'll show up there. in fact, i use this as an additional source of data for my own voting. you make the defensive highlight, you get 2 extra 'marathon points'! conversely, if your blunder was so egregious that you make the highlight reel (which is pretty rare, really), you lose 2 marathon points!
  12. Edgy DC wrote: David Murphy. Why? Because he had the gall to play like a rookie and not get hurt when everybody else did. Plus, he's not the unblemished Ike Davis. Why not? Gets the goodwill of the white, the young, the Irish. Some also may retain the hope of his strong 2008. Chance of boos? 43%. i think david murphy should be quite safe from hearing the boos of met fans. unless he tunes in to baseball tonight as they're replaying daniel murphy's booing.
  13. woohoo! now to update my spreadsheet!
  14. um... we're still doing it this year, right?
  15. i predict that after the first 90 wins, they call the season and hand us the trophy. or, somewhat more realistically, 90 wins take an nl east dogfight that would bring a tear to michael vick's eye. they breeze into the world series and face some team other than the yankees, who finally realized just how old their damned core is, and win in 6 games.
  16. that's a hell of a palm-ball he's got there... are biceps curls the only exercise he does? i mean, jeez. i've got more massive forearms than him, and i'm a runner!
  17. i do not feel good about my team. not one bit.
  18. i think it can be fair to forgive (some of) the initial lack of metliness throughout the stadium due to the fact that it still wasn't entirely finished as of opening day, and surely there were things they were still getting around to. but they lose credibility in that the hall of fame is in previously used space. they did not plan for it originally, it is clear. if they were kindof smart, they could've floated a notion of "oh, we were gonna stash it here, but based on the fan outpouring, we realized that it wouldn't be nearly big enough for the level of fan interest that we've clearly underestimated. that's why we had to steal space from teh team store. the hall of fame was gonna be nice - see these hastily rendered pictures - but now it's gonna be hella better!"
  19. i'd prefer to see him start the season in AAA, and then, if needed, come up to help the club out of the pen
  20. that can't be right... Nomar Garciaparra... ...Transactions June 3, 1991: Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 5th round of the 1991 amateur draft, but did not sign. June 2, 1994: Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1st round (12th pick) of the 1994 amateur draft. Player signed July 20, 1994. Jason Varitek... ...Transactions June 3, 1993: Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round (21st pick) of the 1993 amateur draft, but did not sign. June 2, 1994: Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 1st round (14th pick) of the 1994 amateur draft. Player signed April 20, 1995. July 31, 1997: Traded by the Seattle Mariners with Derek Lowe to the Boston Red Sox for Heathcliff Slocumb. at least, so says baseball reference, and concurred by the baseball cube OE: nevermind. cape league is independent amateur baseball, not affiliated professional baseball. ignore me.
  21. my kid does that so much better...
  22. maybe you're just not a good enough goal-scorer.
  23. i put down 40%, but i'm not so sure about it. my heart says it should be lower, but my head screams that it could be higher. the only way it really matters is that determining the cause determines the cure.
