  1. Sounds biblical.
  2. Not NYM related but, speaking of looking leaner, I read a blurb the other day where Vladdy Jr claims to be 40-some lbs lighter as compared to last year. I've not seen before and after shots. Two thoughts: a) he needed it what 22 y/o athlete allows themselves to get 40+ pounds overweight I guess the idea that they've always gotten away with it to this point gives them less urgency. Dom to a lesser extent carried extra weight until he decided he better not. Prince Fielder, probably others. If nothing else it gives them a good entry in the 'Best Shape of My Life' contest seemingly held each Spring
  3. Fielding at 3B isn't a lot different than 1st -- less subtlety maybe but with more chances plus with a lot more throwing involved. I don't know that we have any idea of what kind of an arm Pete has but, assuming it's not Steve Garvey awful, it's worth a shot.
  4. It occurs to me that this sort of analysis--finding which individual plays most contributed to a victory--was pioneered right here on this very forum by ... metbot !!!!!
  5. If he had just labelled it "Giants" it would have been ok for me. It was labeled New York/San Francisco Giants which, to me, is the same thing as saying Giants except that it has the added benefit of removing any question as to whether they're talking about a franchise-long accomplishment vs a location-specific one.
  6. =Centerfield post_id=56782 time=1614117139 user_id=65] I think they are arguing about politics on Twitter and it went bad.

  8. I'm missing something here, what is the Bauer/Stroman connection (mis-connection)?
  9. They've put up the starting times for all the games (some still subject to network flexing of course). The good news for us east-coasters is that several of the mid-west teams, as well as the Rox & DBacks, are opting for 6:30 local time starts this year. This keeps the post-8:00 starts down to a minimum ... something always appreciated by us old folks. Basically there will be two rough weeks (early June, mid-August) plus a handful of other scattered games here and there for a total of 15 Post-8:00 PM (EDT) starts including five of the dreaded post-10 PM first pitches All post-8:00 starts: (2) Fri-Sat April 16-17: 8:40, 8:10 in Colorado (6) Mon-Tues May 31-June 1, 9:40 in Arizona; Thu June 3-Sat June 6, 10:10 in Sandy Eggo (5) Mon & Tues August 16-17 9:45 in SF; Thu-Fri August 19-20 10:10 in LA, also Sat Aug 21 9:10 (1) Sunday night Sept 12 in CF vs MFY 8:08 - this is ESPN and moved to 8PM for football reasons I'm assuming (1) Fri Sept 24 8:10 in Milwaukee
  10. =86dreamer post_id=56575 time=1613796594 user_id=97] Any idea of the year or who is sitting in the back seat?
  11. Although the AAA skeds are using the same six-game sets, unlike the High-A league and Brooklyn, those teams are playing no cross-division games even within their own section. iow, Syracuse will have just five opponents all season long; they'll visit and get visits only from Buffalo, Lehigh Valley, Rochester, Worcester, and S-WB, changing opponents each Tuesday for a six game chunk before an off day on Monday and then a new/familiar dance partner for the coming week. Season runs from April 6 thru September 19 (later than in the past)
  12. Edgy MD wrote: That's a painful lot of bus-riding. I think the goal is that there'll be less. In the Brooklyn example above, the 'clones will have a 14-hours-ish ride to and fro those first two opponents ... but those rides will be some 14 days apart with virtually nothing in between and then not another one for another two weeks.. That might be easier on the butt cheeks than shorter but more frequent trips that occur every three or four days as has been the norm.
  13. The other thing new to the minors this year -- in order to cut down on travel and to guard against too much Covid exposure (and, oh yeah, to save $$$$) -- is playing Six Game series. So Brooklyn, for instance, opens on the road (May 4th) with six straight in Asheville, NC followed by six more a 50 or so mile bus ride south in Greenville, SC . They'll then go home (after a day off) to host the hated Hudson Valley Renegades (the new MFY franchise at that level so they're hated even though they've never met to this point) for six consecutive days and then get a visit for six straight from Aberdeen. In the case of out-of-division games such as Asheville & Greenville, there will be no return visit from that team. Presumably the next year Asheville would go to Brooklyn for all their games although it's unclear right now if this schedule is a Covid deal, an experiment, or something more permanent.
  14. Willets Point wrote: I did not know this! The International League and the Pacific Coast League have over a century of history. That's tragic. To some degree, sure. On the other hand, the International League hasn't has a team outside the US borders in years and the Pacific Coast Lg, in recent years, has hosted teams from sites such as New Orleans and Memphis ... kind of making it not really a PCL anymore. And part of this re-org is to regionalize things a bit better. So the new set-up is: AAA East - consisting of: - Northeast: Buffalo, Lehigh Valley, Rochester, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Syracuse, Worcester - Midwest: Columbus, Indianapolis, Iowa, Louisville, Omaha, St Paul (new), Toledo - Southeast: Charlotte, Durham, Gwinnett, Jacksonville, Memphis, Nashville, Norfolk AAA West - East: Albuquerque, El Paso, Oklahoma City, Round Rock, Sugarland (TX, new) - West: Las Vegas, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Tacoma AA North - Northeast: Binghamton, Hartford, New Hampshire, Portland, Reading, Somerset - Southwest: Akron, Altoona, Bowie, Erie, Harrisburg, Richmond AA Central - North: Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas, Springfield, Tulsa, Wichita - South: Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Frisco, Midland, San Antonio AA South - North: Birmingham, Chattanooga, Rocket City, Tennessee - South: Biloxi, Mississippi, Montgomery, Pensacola High-A East - North: Aberdeen, Brooklyn, Hudson Valley, Jersey Shore, Wilmington - South: Asheville, Bowling Green, Greensboro, Greenville, Hickory, Rome, Winston-Salem High-A Central - East: Dayton, Fort Wayne, Great Lakes, Lake Country, Lansing, West Michigan - West: Beloit, Cedar Rapids, Peoria, Quad Cities, South Bend, Wisconsin High-A West Eugene, Everett, Hillsboro, Spokane, Tri-City, Vancouver Low-A East - Central: Carolina, Down East, Fayetteville, Kannapolis - North: Delmarva, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Salem - South - Augusta, Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach Low-A Southeast - East: Daytona, Jupiter, Palm Beach, St. Lucie - West: Bradenton, Clearwater, Dunedin, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Tampa Low-A West - North: Fresno, Modesto, San Jose, Stockton - South: Inland Empire, Lake Elsinore, Ranch Cucamonga, Visalia
  15. =metsmarathon post_id=56490 time=1613746875 user_id=83] nah, they shoulda gone $80M/year, just to get bauer.
  16. See!! It was a smart move not to sign him.
  17. Judging by the Jets recent run of "success", I'd say they appear to have a non-aggression pact with most teams ... just not necessarily a mutual one.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: There have been five first-name Robinsons in baseball history, and three have played for the Mets in the last decade, including two last season. All three with a last name starting with the letter "C". This segment of the thread has been brought to you by RC Cola
  19. I actually like that the start of things is somewhat delayed this year. ST is too long to begin with but, seeing as how it's big business for snow-bird dollars in FLA and ARZ, they've been ramping it up earlier and earlier in recent years to the point where P & C time really just signifies the start of a whole lotta nuthin. A shorter and more local ST is probably better all around.
  20. Pillar is also older (32), reportedly not the defensive force he used to be (tho he once was spectacular), and (if he makes the squad) the Mets will be his fifth ML team since the beginning of 2019.
  21. Jared Hughes is 6' 7", racked up ten years in the big leagues, all of it in the NL including his final run as a NYM, and I yet I somehow managed to have ZERO memory of him as a baseball player much less as a Met
  22. No memories at all ... not a single one.
  23. I spent a good part of my college years chasin' shreve. Wait, what?!?
  24. =smg58 post_id=56031 time=1613154544 user_id=62] Neither Lindor nor Arenado were traded at a cost that the acquiring team would consider painful, so who knows?
  25. FMan was very disappointed when he learned of the actual content of this thread.
