  1. A lot going on in this round between the doubleheader flop, the Frazier trade, Tom's passing, Pete's memorable HR, and Steve's purchase. I think that the look of the Newsday cover is for their anniversary. G-Fafif wrote about his search for the papers remembering Tom: http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/17/a-rainy-goodbye/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/17/a-rainy-goodbye/ .
  2. "What A Rally" "What A Night" "What A Fix"
  3. I'd vote for Nick Swisher's wife https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoAnna_Garciahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoAnna_Garcia before I voted for him. I'd vote for Kent and Wagner but you don't have to vote for anyone.
  4. Bonds/Clemens/Schilling/Sosa: the upside is that we wouldn't have to hear them debated every year so all at once and it's over with. The downside, of course, is that they are Hall of Famers forever and their cheating/disgusting behavior will have been condoned in the name of their stats. Get ready for months of Andy Pettitte talk on WFAN.
  5. So many people I dislike including one that advocated for the murder of journalists. 6 former Mets. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Em9eBj6VkAAfbUC?format=png&name=900x900>
  6. Nice work on the "Squirrel" cover. A photograph that is on more than one cover is downgraded by me although it's hard to overlook what might be our only Billy Hamilton cover. And I'm guessing that "'Cello" will be our only Rick Porcello cover.
  7. Without doing a deep-dive into the numbers, I would consider Morton and Odorizzi fine SPs, Odorizzi less so because he was injured so many damn times last season (he was on my fantasy roster). I agree that they are "back end" but under the old regime they'd be 2 or 3 and here they are 4 or 5. 1. Jake 2. ??? 3. Marcus 4. Peterson 5. Morton. ETA Unknown: Noah.
  8. Trevor Bauer, on his YouTube Channel talked about Steve Cohen and the 4 things that he is doing right for 17 minutes, without notes or a break. My "take" is that Mets beat reporters better buy a bigger notebook if he signs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61zvP3o5TPchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61zvP3o5TPc
  9. True but it's light years better than a goal of "meaningful games in September".
  10. Tight race! Steve Kornacki is at the big board explaining the votes so far and what might happen.
  11. "Spare parts And broken hearts Keep the world turnin' around" --Bruce Springsteen
  12. Thanks, FK. I hope that Steve Cohen considers him to be Alberto Giacometti's "L'Homme au doigt" of this FA class.
  13. Did Jake call Bauer to concede? Have we checked all the ballots?
  14. Damn, I liked WSH having their AAA team in California. You can get them used to the booing they'll get in Queens.
  15. Under the previous owners, this plus a Vargas-type would have been it for the rotation. For the new owner, it's only the beginning.
  16. The MFYs have made Somerset, NJ their AA home (they were in Trenton).
  17. Yeesh, too many with A. Rodriguez.
  18. My son texted "bye idiot". I told him that he needed to be specific today.
  19. In this group, we moved from the optimism of Yo's return to Covid. How naive we were to think that this would be over quickly. The last cover was after Pete's Zoom call.
  20. =Fman99 post_id=49883 time=1604540656 user_id=86] I long for action photos. Most of these would not prompt me to drop $2 for the paper.
  21. If you believe Ken Davidoff, and there's no reason why you should, the Mets will sign Springer, Stroman, and McCann. https://nypost.com/2020/11/01/top-mlb-free-agents-2021-ranking-and-predictions/https://nypost.com/2020/11/01/top-mlb-free-agents-2021-ranking-and-predictions/
  22. BVW has handled the preparation for this season flawlessly. While other teams are having difficulty with their testing and protocols the Mets appear to be able to play without disruption and with a minimum of distraction. He has manipulated the draft to acquire two #1 picks in consecutive years (if it was easy every team would do it). On the field, he acquired Porcello and Wacha which were even more important moves with Noah's injury. He signed Betances for below value and made smaller moves that I think will benefit the team (e.g. Marisnick, Adams, Fargas). The Kelenick/Cano trade can't be undone but Cano has been a professional and a quiet leader. I answered "C" because Cohen didn't make his money by not observing his personnel but I would give BVW a lengthy grace period, especially with the work he has done this year. I will grade my own test: "he acquired Porcello and Wacha which were even more important moves with Noah's injury." Both were mediocre at best but disappointing. Porcello had a +1.7 WAR, Wacha had a +0.1. "made smaller moves that I think will benefit the team (e.g. Marisnick, Adams, Fargas)" Adams and Fargas never played for the Mets. Marisnick had a +0.1 WAR and was hurt a lot. I'll give my report a +0.1 WAR but that's it.
  23. Charlie Morton, from Flemington, NJ, would be a strong addition to the rotation (if he would take a 2-year deal). He had a 0.9 WAR in '20 but a 6.1 WAR in '19. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/charlie-morton/4676/stats?position=Phttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/charlie-morton/4676/stats?position=P
  24. Under the prior ownership, this might have been it for the off-season. The Mets signed Nick Tropeano (who attended a college of some renown) and Jacob Barnes. https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1322272878784557059https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1322272878784557059 https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1322267996782551042https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1322267996782551042
