Mauricio looking like a guy who has not played in weeks. So there's that. How Stearns has handled Mauricio this year is one (just one) of the issues of '25. Mauricio didn't play in '24 and missed all of ST. He played 19 games in the minors and was called up in June. If a player is a top prospect and misses that much time, he should be playing every day, but as we know, he has played very little for a long time. The theory is that they are preserving a minor league option for '26, but really, who cares when you have to win now? He should have been getting "reps" at Syracuse instead of not playing. We see that he can't bat righty, even though he is a switch hitter, so again, why wasn't he playing every day in Syracuse? Instead, he sat on the bench, and his lack of playing time might have contributed to his brain fart (baseball lingo) on Friday, as covering the bag should have been instinctual. BTW, that was a position on the roster that could have been given to Iglesias--he would have covered third.
