  1. I think that's Billy Hamilton (1 for 22 as a Met). He pinch-ran for McNeil and scored before Rosario. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA202008282.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA202008282.shtml
  2. Moroff got a lot of playing time last March and, as noted, seemed like a borderline bench player until the first practice game in July when he "had a tough time in the field" and that was the last we saw of him. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/new-york-yankees-new-york-mets-400718121/https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/new-york-yankees-new-york-mets-400718121/
  3. Here we go again: the owners want to get rid of some of those annoying regular-season games and the players do not. If the owners were sincere about it being about safety then they could extend the season by a week and back-load the schedule with doubleheaders but we know that they really want an excuse to cut salaries.

  5. If you need another reason to be happy that Steve Cohen is the owner of the Mets, read about A. Rodriguez's vision for the Mets as part of his entertainment empire: https://www.nj.com/yankees/2020/12/ex-yankees-slugger-alex-rodriguez-explains-his-failed-vision-for-the-mets-baseball-was-just-a-small-part-of-it.html?outputType=amphttps://www.nj.com/yankees/2020/12/ex-yankees-slugger-alex-rodriguez-explains-his-failed-vision-for-the-mets-baseball-was-just-a-small-part-of-it.html?outputType=amp
  6. Unfortunately, the first "Jared" that came to mind was Kushner.
  7. Good thread title, CF.
  8. I cast an unenthusiastic vote but it's too bad that each of the covers in 2.01 couldn't advance in lieu of these two.
  9. He's not Realmuto but he's the next best C. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/james-mccann/12859/stats?position=Chttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/james-mccann/12859/stats?position=C https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McCann_%28baseball%29https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McCann_(baseball) Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM Create an account or log in to Instagram - Share what you're into with the people who get you. 10. The presence of Mrs. Maisel almost swayed me but there's too much going on, including an ad, for me to go against Pete.
  11. I love the "Night" picture (and the "Bombers" being in a "free fall"--which sadly, didn't last for another day--is a bonus). Someone worked hard on the "MLB 2020" cover but it's too wordy to defeat a far better opponent.
  12. =Centerfield post_id=51559 time=1606857605 user_id=65] Wait, so is this guy like, good?
  13. May wears #65 (I guess because he's 6'5") but he'll have to ask Gsellman for the number (if Gsellman is a Met next season).
  14. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I was like, this isn't the guy with the hair is it? I thought the same thing, thinking it was Dustin May.
  15. Welcome right-handed RP Trevor May! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Mayhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_May (please note his "Personal life") https://www.fangraphs.com/players/trevor-may/6398/stats?position=Phttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/trevor-may/6398/stats?position=P https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/trevor-may-543507?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlbhttps://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/trevor-may-543507?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM Create an account or log in to Instagram - Share what you're into with the people who get you. https://twitter.com/IamTrevorMayhttps://twitter.com/IamTrevorMay From Fangraphs: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2021-top-50-free-agents/https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2021-top-50-free-agents/ [bLOCKQUOTE]Most of May's numbers aren't eye-popping, but his 40% strikeout rate in 2020 really jumps out. His velocity has steadily increased over the years, now sitting in the upper-90s. Even at 31 years old, there's a sense that his best seasons might still be ahead of him. The home runs are a bit frustrating, but if he can keep hitters missing and stay healthy, he's the second-best reliever in this free agent class. Player Notes At a glance, May's 1.9 HR/9 ratio looks far more alarming than his strikeout surge looks encouraging. Small samples often have a distortive effect though, and that's the case here as well. While May's cartoonishly high 21.7% HR/FB ratio will undoubtedly regress in short order, the substantial increase in whiffs he generated looks legitimate. He reared back and found an extra tick on his fastball last season, and hitters missed the pitch more than 20% of the time. Life gets a whole lot easier when your fastball can carry the profile. Three consecutive seasons of good-if-not-quite-great relief work should put May in line for a multi-year deal worth around $10 million per, give or take how excited front offices are about his four-seamer. The pandemic will likely eat into that figure though, and so it'll be interesting to see if May values the stability of a longer contract or would rather roll the dice and hit free agency after 2021. As the valedictorian in Kelso High School's class of 2008, I trust him to arrive at the right answer.[/bLOCKQUOTE]
  16. BG, at Tabloid HQ is there one team working on the 2020 Derby and another working on the 2021 Derby or do the same people (and maybe the horse) that are tabulating the results also pouring over the daily tabloid covers to determine eligibility for the subsequent year?
  17. I thought that NJ's own would be a good fit for the Mets but maybe Sandy has bigger goals.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: My understanding, going forward, is that Brooklyn will outrank St. Lucie. Nobody outranks Brooklyn!
  19. There was a comment that Sam was in demand which lead to the major-league offer and the high salary (if he makes the Mets) for a player w/o major experience so we're seeing the first benefit of the Saul Cohen era as the Mets were able to offer him more money.
  20. BG, I'm impressed at how up to date the covers are (through Cano) and how nicely the 1st round fit into a Monday to Friday schedule. I'm just wondering how it would be handled if somehow they signed, e.g., J.T. Realmuto today. Would there be another day of the 1st round or would that be considered for the 2021 Derby?
  21. Add Sam McWilliams to the Mets family on a 1-year major league deal. He's 6'7" and has no major league experience. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/sam-mcwilliams/sa829124/stats?position=Phttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/sam-mcwilliams/sa829124/stats?position=P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_McWilliamshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_McWilliams His wife/life-partner/gf is in some of the pictures: Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM
  22. Your first disappointment of the 2021 Mets season: no GKR for Opening Day as it will be an ESPN "exclusive": https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2020/11/espns-2021-major-league-baseball-season-opening-schedule-to-feature-11-national-game-telecasts-and-18-clubs-in-action/https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2020/11/espns-2021-major-league-baseball-season-opening-schedule-to-feature-11-national-game-telecasts-and-18-clubs-in-action/
  23. The Wilpons would have gleefully (think Montgomery Burns) recouped the $20M and maybe spent half of that on a Jason Vargas-type. Guillorme/Davis as a 3B platoon is now merely the fallback and that doesn't sound too bad to me.
  24. There's now a permanent home for Jeff McNeil (unless they want to go after D.J. LeMahieu) and J.D. Davis becomes more important (and less of a trade piece). Steve doesn't need the $ but they save $24M in salary, too. Thanks so much, Brodie. Kelenick + Dunn for a RP that killed the Mets in '19 and Cano (2 more years beyond '20) looks better and better. Can they double-fire Brodie?
  25. He didn't walk, he used a Hoverboard and went to a newsstand near the Clock Tower.
