  1. Yes, there has been a lot of Jackie Bradley, Jr. speculation. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jackie-bradley-jr/12984/stats?position=OFhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/jackie-bradley-jr/12984/stats?position=OF Look at his D-WAR!!! Also, it appears that he has trouble hitting righties which is a concern on a team that leans left (not a political comment). There are interesting comments here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Bradley_Jr.#2018https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Bradley_Jr.#2018 Interesting point, smg58 about his success w/Davis. Some speculation about trading for Lorenzo Cain: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/lorenzo-cain/9077/stats?position=OFhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/lorenzo-cain/9077/stats?position=OF
  2. With the richest owner in the game, we were certain that the Mets would AT LEAST one of the big 4 FAs but Cohen signed none of them. Lindor got Cano's salary so that didn't cost them anything. They're much, much better (I'm not forgetting Carrasco) and they have the $ to keep Lindor and Conforto (and deGrom has an opt-out in '22) but FA-wise, I didn't expect them to only sign 2d/3d tier FAs (May, McCann, Stroman).

  4. Great job Grimm. I appreciate the commitment to safety by the entire staff.
  5. "the return of seven-inning doubleheaders and extra-inning games beginning with a runner on second base". The writers love these rules to the point where they don't give the "cons" a fair hearing because they get to stop working quicker. The runner on 2d in the top of the 10th rule gave us the Alonso lead-off two-run homer.
  6. What if your SP gets hurt? We've seen it: the starter comes back from an injury too quickly and leaves in the first inning. You lose the DH for that?
  7. Lindor, Carrasco, May, and McCann.
  8. DH-depth. Don't give him a glove. Look at his offense WAR and defensive WAR: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jose-martinez/7996/stats?position=1B/OFhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/jose-martinez/7996/stats?position=1B/OF https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Mart%C3%ADnez_%28baseball,_born_1988%29https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Mart%C3%ADnez_(baseball,_born_1988) https://twitter.com/djshort/status/1349804159206354952https://twitter.com/djshort/status/1349804159206354952

  14. The Cubs are rebuilding (I don't know why as they have the fans, their own network, and play in a shrine) and Kris Bryant is on the market. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/kris-bryant/15429/stats?position=3Bhttps://www.fangraphs.com/players/kris-bryant/15429/stats?position=3B He's only 1 season removed from a 4.8 WAR. His 2020 was very bad but it was for a lot of us. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Bryanthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Bryant This is a good overview of his career with an oddly specific (for Wiki) note at the end of the 2020 paragraph. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/kris-bryant-592178?stats=statcast-r-fielding-mlbhttps://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/kris-bryant-592178?stats=statcast-r-fielding-mlb I think that this shows that he is a "meh" fielder. Bigger minds than mine have to decide if he's still "got it" or if he's on a downward slope. I wonder if he'd merely provide the same numbers as JD at a much higher cost (which could impede spending elsewhere).
  15. Everyone was surprised when BVW added him to the 2020 Opening Day roster and if he didn't, we wouldn't have seen his talent and perhaps this trade wouldn't have been made.
  16. FYI, Lindor is only 2 years older than Amed.

  18. Ugh, the Cano cover has a decent play on his name but looks horrible. Note the irrelevant MFY content pressed against his nose. They didn't need the two "bullets" and should have taken the tiny lettering next to the "N" and moved it elsewhere.
  19. The better two covers have to face-off in the semis.
  20. The "e" and the "s" in the second line next to Cano's nose make the layout look sloppy to me. Did they need the subheadlines (they could have moved the tiny "Robbie banned..." text there and omitted the reference to LeMahieu's "situation").
  21. Jeff Passan has a column this morning that has many, many thoughts but no conclusions. My summary: The Mets are in on all but there are no guarantees. Here's an excerpt. (Seriously, George. Toronto? It's not like Eugene Levy will be there to greet you. You're a Connecticut guy so we know that Toronto is a beard. Plus, you might have to play in Buffalo for a few months. We're ready when you are.) [bLOCKQUOTE]... Springer might be the most fascinating of all because of the teams vying for his services: the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays. There are others, too, but executives believe this is a two-team race between the duo seen as the likely biggest spenders this winter. Certainly this benefits Springer; bidding wars these days are few and far between. But Springer also understands that there are scenarios in which both teams go in another direction. The Blue Jays, sources said, have emerged as significant players in the LeMahieu sweepstakes -- perhaps the biggest threat to him re-signing with the New York Yankees, with whom a significant gap remains. The Mets also have expressed interest in LeMahieu. New York is seen by a number of executives as the best landing spot for Bauer. 22. I don't want to height-shame but he's no Trevor May (Cam is 5'9" per the 4th link, although he's taller in others). https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=opp---000camhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=opp---000cam https://goarmywestpoint.com/sports/baseball/roster/cam-opp/14179https://goarmywestpoint.com/sports/baseball/roster/cam-opp/14179 http://www.seniorclassaward.com/athletes/cam_opp/http://www.seniorclassaward.com/athletes/cam_opp/ (read this one) http://baseballnews.com/impossible-dream-becomes-reality-for-cam-opp/http://baseballnews.com/impossible-dream-becomes-reality-for-cam-opp/
  23. https://twitter.com/Jacob_Resnick/status/1339988986857549825https://twitter.com/Jacob_Resnick/status/1339988986857549825 This was the purge in '17 when Sandy acquired these relievers and only one is "still here". However, before you get up in Sandy's business, IIRC he had to accept a lesser prospect in exchange for the other team accepting more of the new player's salary. Is that right? If so, I'm pretty sure those days are behind us now.
  24. https://postimg.cc/N5THvVn9 He was friendly as he finished his warmup session during a Spring Training practice. He signed numerous autographs (despite them not knowing who he was) and was dripping sweat. I said "will someone get him a towel!" and he laughed. Then we took this picture. Analytics say that he deserved better results than he got with the Mets.
