  1. By the way, Tyler Walker joins fellow Met Pete Walker (and a host of others) and Grant Balfour as poorly named pitchers. The best, A's pitcher Josh Outman.
  2. I have no memory of Tyler Walker or Matt Watson. None. At first I thought you guys were talking about Allen Watson.
  3. Yeah, I'm trying to be detached and logical about this, but I find myself more and more in seawolf's camp. After he's done, I'll smack him on the other side.
  4. The Yankees should step up here and pay him $150 million over the next five. Anything less is insulting to the Captain. You can't put a price tag on clutch, but it's worth at least $27,874,332.87 per. Jeter on the O's would be horrible for baseball. (God forbid he should walk and the MFY's use that $15 million on a player actually worth it.) In fact, I think paying Jeter but leaving out all the other Yankee greats is pretty fucking shitty of the team. Mantle, DiMaggio and the Babe all deserve $40 million per year for everything they've done.

  6. Hat pointed forward, no catching gear? That's Mackey's MO.
  7. Edgy DC wrote: If that's not Carter, who is it? He seems to have Sasser's jaw, but I don't think it's him either. Faces can be tough at some angles. I think that card of Dykstra above looks more like Elster, but he's got Lenny's number. Warming up a pitcher between innings without gear on and his hat pointed forward --- that would seem to indicate a third-string catcher (Sasser) or a backup infielder, and he looks to bulky to be the latter. It looks like Sasser to me.
  8. My favorite Mets card of all time is 1984 Darryl Strawberry. In fact, during a period of my youth, it may not have just been my favorite card, but my favorite thing. Ever. Other favorites: Picked up this after I got somewhat serious about card collecting. Bad investment, cool card. I liked it because it was his rookie card, but it's a pretty ugly picture. Much cooler Gooden cards: Other Favorites: This is one from my Dad: In every pack I ever bought:
  9. Is there a bigger wild card for 2011 than Carlos Beltran? He could be dead weight on the roster, or he could be the MVP.
  10. Joe Morgan is not fired. I've watched Joe Morgan broadcast for twenty years. The man is a Hall of Famer, an Emmy award winner, Joe Morgan is a top notch announcer. There's no way he could be fired. What? No, I haven't read the article. I don't need to read the article. I don't believe in all this website stuff. Baseball has been around a lot longer than the internet. I don't see how an internet article can have anything to do with the game of baseball.
  11. CF has no idea what he looks like. Ken responds by saying he "doesn't give a shit" and has no idea what CF looks like either.
  12. $10 million? Seriously? I wouldn't go more than $5 million over 2 years for Tak.
  13. Holy crap. Not in a million years would I recognize him. All I remember about him is the beard and powder blue.
  14. This is obviously just a PR stunt to entice Tak to stick around.
  15. You know, it's funny. I've been hearing the name Ken Oberkfell for more than 25 years. But I wouldn't recognize the man if I were sitting across from him on the train.
  16. My first thoughts upon seeing this thread: Charlie Daniels was suspended? From what? What does that have to do with... Oh, oh. Charlie Samuels. Of course. The Phillies manager. Nice.
  17. According to Metsblog, the Padres GM Jed Hoyer has confirmed that Alderson has asked permission to speak to Paul DePodesta. How cool would that be if we got him? I can't believe how excited I am over this. I realize that the track records of some of these deputies aren't exactly stellar, but with the Mets resources, I feel like this team could become something credible.
  18. I heard he stole Derek Jeter's glove.
  19. This is cool. Last week we hired the first smart person in years. A week later, we doubled that number.
  20. What does finishing a game mean? Does that mean, he's the last pitcher on the mound? (save, walk-off loss) Or does that mean he's the last pitcher for the Mets? As in he pitches the top of the ninth, then the Mets win it in the bottom?
  21. I can only wonder how happy Mad Dog must be. I wish he and Francesa were still together so Mike would have to suffer through the gloating.
  22. So what you're saying is, we're good enough to win. We're just too dumb.
  23. If Tak were white he'd be getting Jeter money. That's right. I went there.
