  1. Really? I can't believe I missed this. Fuck MLB. If I'm the Wilpons, I'd pay whatever fine they want and tell the Mets to continue wearing the hats. Where's the team captain on this one? I need someone to be like "Fuck it, I'm wearing it anyway."
  2. Edgy DC wrote: I feel more disappointed than I should that the Mets let slide the tradition of wearing the service department hats on September 11. It was everything a tradition should be, starting off spontaneously and heartfelt and somewhat subversively, and it was unique to the team. Boo to everything that makes teams similar, and hurray to everything (even stupid stuff) that makes them dissimilar. When did this happen? Was it just this year? (Missed the Sept. 11 game) This is one of the few things I felt the organization did right. Figures if they fucked this up.
  3. Maybe this tight race is the justification for not starting Oliver Perez this last month.
  4. The end of the season is near. We have a small window to create a grassroots movement to bring back Bobby V. Somehow we have to get this message out there. I'm open to ideas.
  5. Which goes to show you that "Pitching, Speed and Defense" isn't nearly as good a philosophy as "Pitching and lots of Offense".
  6. Just a few other numbers to throw at you, so you can get the full picture: Eckstein's Hustle is a perfect 100 (for the MLB-record 9th year in a row). His Grit is a 16.6 meh but his Having-Overcome-Obstacles clocks in at 41.4771 on the accurate-to-four-decimal-points Lathingham-Norbley Having-Overcome-Obstacles scale. And his Guts grades out at a respectable VVS1. (Remember Guts are graded on the same scale as diamond clarity). Dying here. It's got to be illegal to be this funny.
  7. Honestly, I'm not sure what my point was, other than ten years is a round number and the performance is unsatisfactory to me. Realistically, I'd like 3 or 4 post-season berths in a 10 year span, and I don't see why we can't be in the mix 7 of those years. Teams like Boston and LA (over .500 9 years, playoffs 4 years), who are similar financially, have managed to compete consistently year after year. I don't see why this can't be the Mets. And it's not like the ten years before that were any better. I don't know if this is because of the Wilpons, or there is some organizational mindset, or just bad luck. But something's gotta change.
  8. Awesome. Even the guys who comment are funny.
  9. By comparison, the Red Sox, who have similar resources to the Mets, but also have the MFY's in their division, have been over .500 every year for the past 10 years. They have 6 post-season berths, and 2 World Series titles.
  10. In the last ten years, including 2010,... *The Mets have one post-season appearance (2006) *The Mets have been in contention 5 years, and been out of contention (double digit deficit in games) in the other 5. In two of those years where they were within single digits, they were only remotely in contention (2001 - 6 games; 2005 - 7 games). Meaning they were only realistically in contention 3 years. *They have a record of 795-812. *They will have had 5 losing seasons (if they remain below .500 this year). Meanwhile, they maintain an incredible competitive advantage because of their payroll/resources. This is some serious mis-management that goes beyond bunting too often.
  11. Should be bigger.
  12. After 25+ seasons, it will take a lot more than Joe Torre for me to "renounce" them. A few more seasons like 2009 and 2010, though, and my interest may hit an all-time low.

He's not just making this up - he told me that story a full week ago. So how do we know he wasn't making the story up then too. Huh? HUH? Yeah, exactly. I mean we know the kinds of things that some of us (coughcoughCFcoughcough) have told the Pool over the years (coughcoughLatviacoughcough). Nah, I whole-heartedly believe the CF/Latvia stuff. You should see my child support bills.
  14. Actually, I see nothing wrong with this. This is a guy who cares about his brand image...and uniforms are part of that. He listened to the complaints of the players, then compromised and gave the guys a range in which it could be worn. Am I missing something?
  15. More from Joel: Everyone hates Jeff Wilpon http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/but_will_baseball_brightest_7PwTaYoBp7ZLhGuwZ4YKbP/0
  16. Oliver Perez's "fall-off-the mound" delivery ranks with the basket catch of Willie Mays as one of the signature plays in baseball history. Still, Perez's effectiveness, especially his control, has been an object of derision by statistical analysts. "There is no possible way you can measure it," Perez says of control, which he said includes too many variables that cannot be quantified. "There's just no way. It's impossible. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but ... no way."
  17. How come no one plagiarizes me?
  18. I put this on the Wilpons. If they're going to be pissy, make it mandatory. If you didn't make it mandatory, fume in a way it won't be public. If it does become public, come out and say you're not mad. Even if you are. Staying silent has allowed this story to fester. Sure, the beat writers suck too, but an argument could be made that this is part of their job.
  19. For the first time this season, the Mets have won the rubber game of an away series. It also marks the first time this year that the Mets have done this on the road.
  20. Ridiculously Awesome follow's Gee's lead and picks up a hit of his own before giving up one. How did Buffalo not go undefeated early this season?
  21. I'd like to see Gee and Mejia get as many starts as possible. And anyone else who might have a shot next year as well. September should be an audition for next year's 5th starter. Get Parnell a start or two...let him develop his other pitches. Or, if you're not going to start Parnell, let him work on his other pitches instead of just relying on his fastball. Or, if you're just going to let Parnell work on his fastball, instill him as the "closer" then trade him for someone looking for an established closer who will overvalue the position.
  22. Feel the ire of Dre and Snoop for passing on the obvious IGT title.
  23. Write me in for "Who Fucking Cares".
  24. The obvious winner is Vic Sage, but points have to be awarded to FK. It was one line, but a doozy. Vic is the starting pitcher that went seven innings giving up 2 runs, but FK had the pinch hit solo shot in the 8th that put the team ahead. On Edit: Vic Sage - 4.5 Dickshot - 1.5 Soupcan - 1 Frayed Knot 1 Edgy 1 KC .5 ABNS .5
