If he finished 46 in a portion of a year, it seems almost automatic that he'd hit that number next year.
  2. Wow. A link to UMDB could have saved Tim 1/15th of his time.
  3. I have to say last night was one of the best game experiences I've ever had. The weather was perfect, we had great seats, and the kids were really excited and happy. Couple of cool things: *When Hamels got the hit, I had a good feeling RA was going to throw a one-hitter with that being the only hit. The crowd showered him with love after the game. I can't imagine how cool it must have been for him. You really have to feel good for a guy like that. *Because we listen to games in the car, Ryan thinks the chant goes "Let's Go Mets! F-A-N!" *Stella gets all excited when the crowd cheers. Her eyes get big, she claps, and looks genuinely shocked that when the Mets score a run. She also likes french fries from Nathan's. *The kids love the black. Given license to pick out anything in the store my nephew chose the black alternate jersey and the black hat. *Ryan, given similar license, picked out the giant foam finger. Given the way the season has gone, I was half expecting to see these utilizing a different digit... *Ryan rounded up a posse of fellow dabidrye fans to go after the asshole who fucked up Hessman's HR. Security won't talk about it because this crew roughed him up something fierce *The boys got a turn at the Whiffle ball field *And the batting cage *Earlier this year, Edgy predicted that the Mets were going to do something special to win over my nephew's fanhood. Last night was it. He says Dickey is his favorite pitcher not named Santana.
  4. Very sure. He is very excited to go. My father-in-law? We will be in section 124, row 15, seats 1-4. Stop by if anyone has last minute plans. Post it here if you are going to be in the house. Or email me. If you don't have it, edgy or metfairy know how to reach me.
  5. We can dream. Santana over 100 pitches now. How long until Jerry pulls him? Hey how about this, why don't we try Santana as the 8th inning guy today?
  6. Taking the family out (including the nephew) on Friday night. Anyone going to be around?
  7. If K-Rod goes, who closes games? Go in-house like Parnell? Or shop again for an "established" closer?
  8. I was. Low base-incentive laden deal.
  9. The Mets have no chance. Just like they had no chance against Wainwright after that horrible road trip.

Awful job by Tom McCarthy. It's an obvious mistake but he couldn't even admit it. Chris Wheeler knew it. By the way, anytime someone has something bad to say about Wayne Hagin, I remember Tom McCarthy. I don't usually have venom for announcers but I could not stand this fucking prick. I could not believe how much he seemed to be actively rooting for Philadelphia during the collapse of 2007. Then I found out he had been the Phillies announcer for five years, and claimed to bleed red and blue. When he took the Philadelphia job, he talked about coming home to the team he loves, bla bla bla. Asshole.
  11. They could use a little Henry Blanco.
  12. I don't get the thread title.
  13. I don't know that there's any ballplayer out there (except maybe white Sammy Sosa) who looks less like he did during his playing days than Wally Backman. Wally was a scrappy, fast little guy. Present-day Wally looks like he ate that guy. Wally could be sitting next to me on a bus, wearing an '86 Backman jersey, and I would never think for a second that it was him.
  14. Thanks Edge. T@YL.

  16. I voted for Jerry, Omar, Wayne and Cora. I'd only fire Jerry and Wayne if I had a better candidate in mind. Cora has to go because the team stands to save money by cutting him. Omar has just not done a very good job. In my mind, he deserves it the most.
  17. Fuck Backman. And Melvin and whoever else they may consider. Go get Bobby Valentine.
  18. I can't imagine that having a vesting clause would prevent a player from being released. Agreed, Cora should be cut.

  21. Lunchbucket has been calling him Remarkable Athlete Dickey. I say he's Ridiculously Awesome Dickey.
  22. Both were free agents. Looking a little more closely, it's not as if Holliday is having some sort of banner year, he's near his career norms. It's just that's how far Bay has fallen short. Looking at Bay's history, he had one year in Pittsburgh where he had a .745 OPS, so this is not unprecedented for him.
  23. Remember last winter when we debated whether Holliday was worth the extra money over Bay? Half a year later and it's not even close. What a season Holliday is having: .305, 19 HR, 60 RBI, OPS of .914, good for 7th in the league. Meanwhile Bay...
  24. The Mets are brilliant. Avoiding this kind of injury by staying away from walk-off wins.
