  1. My son and I tried watching. God, it took forever.
  2. I really don't like the idea that they will keep using his voice to announce Jeter at the stadium. Seems well, morbid. Rather than a moment of silence, a nice tribute would be a season of silence. Yankee batters would come up to no sounds. PA guy could be used to announce the visiting team and all other promo announcements.
  3. The Solos are going tonight
  4. On a related note, and I think I've asked this before... why does every team have their scouting reports and stats (I assume that is what they are) in the dugout in big-ass binders? Not to go all green, but why can't they just store all of it on a laptop?
  5. Seaver?
  6. august 83 pitcher Orosco? Sept. 85 player Carter? edit. Damn. Late on both.
  7. Trying to get out of negative-land: Apr 73 Player Milner Sep 91 player HoJo
  8. Ceetar wrote: September 2008: Pedro Martinez? It's disturbing me a little that Santana didn't win it despite pitching very well, that we had another pitcher win the award, and yet still choked away the season. Pedro didn't win a game in September 08. I have no clue who it is if it isn't Johan.
  9. Sep 08 Pitcher Santana Apr 87 Pitcher Ojeda May 88 Pitcher Sid Sep 88 Player McReynolds
  10. Out, unfortunately. Family vacation that week.
  11. Couldn't Strasburg make the team as the sole Nats representative? I'm not convinced about Zimmerman's candidacy (Wright and Rolen clearly are ahead of him...is Polanco still leading the voting?). Who else is there? Matt Capps?
  12. That's 2 managers they've canned since dumping Wally Backman.
  13. Yeah, I meant Artificial Turf...I can never tell the difference. Possibly that's Cleon heading back to left field?
  14. This photo: Purports to show the ump handing Clemente the ball following #3000. The uniform does seem to be a match from the Kranepool photo, though. It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
  15. Awesome photo. Three Rivers was always astroturf. That is definitely the Three Rivers outfield fence. I posted a question about this on TMF's facebook page. Clemente's final hit was a double (confirmed by Retrosheet). Doesn't it appear that Clemente is standing on first base? Or is that not the first base line in the foreground? I can't think of any other reason for Eddie to be handing the ball to Clemente, other than for his 3000th hit. But if he's on first base, it's not that hit. And if it is his 3000th hit, and he's on second base, why would the first baseman be handing him the ball? Somebody crank up the Mystery Machine.
  16. I tried the "ignore him, nothing to see here folks!" path. But then he dropped a pin (horrors!) under my kid's seat. Since the boy got it for him, it was pins for my kids!
  17. The ignored hi-five for Jeter is total awesomeness. And I am still intrigued by this rain delay card game.
  18. Why would he throw in the "you'll have to slide" comment? Fear of injury?
  19. "Rain Delay card game"? The Solos were there last night too, in covered promenade seats. The only brush with greatness (okay, semi-mediocre-ness) we had was that during the rain delay, "Pin Man" ran for cover and ended up in the seats behind us. He gave both of my kids pins. Cool. Undeniable facts about Pin Man: Carries a rain slick to every game ("can't get the pins wet. They'll rust my jersey.") with a hood ("don't want to short the lighted pins on my cap"). Also had this to say: "Cow Bell Man just has to get a new cow bell. How can I replace my pins and jersey?" None of those quotes were made up.
  20. I could really do without the Mets broadcast team focusing on Yankee fan roll call douchebaggery.
  21. It was surely not the guy in the stands in Cleveland the other night.
  22. I looked it up. I have no memory of that guy being that big.
  23. Is Harrelson the batter?
  24. Masterson was great in his last outing, shutting down his former team, the Red Sox.
  25. Well done, JCL. Hardly surprising that a guy who spent most of his career misplaced as a leadoff batter would screw up the leadoff position as a manager.
