  1. Never saw it. All I know about this movie is that they filmed one scene in a bar in my old Bronx neighborhood.
  2. I went to SD on business about 8 years ago. Middle of January, but what I liked was you could access the left field corner (behind the fence behind the foul pole) via the team store in the ground floor of the Western Metal building. Also, I grabbed lunch and was able to sit on a bench behind the CF fence where the old sandbox used to be. The area behind CF was a public park that was only closed off during games. They also used to show road games on a big screen in that park.
  3. Can't believe no thread on this one yet. I'll be making my initial excursion into enemy territory this Saturday. Any suggestions from folks who have been? I'll be with the family. Planning to do a little touristy stuff earlier in the day before first pitch at 3:05. Our hotel is near City Hall. Looks like we can take Septa to the ballpark. Postgame dinner suggestions also welcome.
  4. Lukewarm take: I predict that if the current trend of franchise owners [crossout:2oohr9xt]extorting cities for[/crossout:2oohr9xt] gently requesting public money to finance stadiums holds up, that the next wave of new stadium construction (probably a generation away) will bring back the multi-use facility.

  6. If you've never been, walk in front of the warehouse beyond the RF wall...they have small baseball sized plaques for all HRs hit up there since the park's inception.
  7. Visited for the first time this year and loved everything about it. Intimate park, great view of downtown and the bridges. Helpful ushers who gave us suggestions for a good spot to take in BP (he even helped us get the attention of Tyler Pill, who tossed little Solo a ball). Head to Manny's BBQ beyond the RF outfield along the concourse by the river, food was great and not expensive. We even talked with and took pictures with Manny Sanguillen! We stayed in the southern part of the city, but our hotel offered a shuttle into downtown, where we could walk across the bridge. Great experience.
  8. First Caddyshack loses to Tootsie, now Spinal Tap may get bounced by Princess Bride???? To quote Frank Costanza on the feast of Festivus: "you people are disappointing the hell out of me!!!"
  9. Where were all you 31 voters when Caddyshack was losing!?!?!?!?!?!
  10. 32 votes in this matchup, and 31 in the Princess Bride contest. Where were you people when Caddyshack was losing?
  11. I fear our board will lose Man Points if this result holds up.
  12. Is this final yet? If so, I am more than a bit surprised.
  13. I would still pay a nickel to see Molly Ringwald's panties. 16 Candles for me.
  14. The first 45 minutes or so of Stripes were great, the rest of the film not so much. ET was probably a better movie start to finish. But, if given a choice of watching either of these movies RIGHT NOW! I go with Stripes.
  15. This is the first matchup of films I really don't like. No vote for me.
  16. First, I think Kelly McGillis, even in her prime, was about as entertaining as wood. Second, I didn't like the idea that a major city cop had to go undercover in the Amish community to keep himself and a witness safe. Didn't safehouses exist in the 80s? Third, I guess I resist the preachy, "look, these people aren't so strange after all" tone.
  17. Meanwhile, James Earl Jones mails it in with a "the check better be good" performance.
  18. Wow. I thought Witness sucked. Can't believe this is close.
  19. Trading Places proves that there actually was a time when Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd were funny. Footloose brings back memories of a bad teen first date with a chick who thought it would be a good idea to smuggle a fifth of bourbon into the theater. NOT good times.
  20. With a title like that, are you sure it's not an, oh, adult film?
  21. Even thought I am so tired of The Xmas Story, I can't dispute it's better than Back to School.
  22. I know Princess Bride reached Cult status, but it never did much for me.
  23. Little drunk men amuse me. Arthur.
  24. This is closer than what the comments here would indicate. I like BHC a lot, so I went with it.
  25. Gotta love Sixteen Candles. "Dong [clap, clap] where is ... my automobile?"
