  1. It probably wasn't Dennis Cook, but I would have liked to have seen Dennis Cook's reaction to having a game-ending balk called on him.
  2. Wayne Garrett, 3B & Ss?

It would have been 2001. 2000 was Japan with Henderson, Hamilton and Bell -- Benny barely made the team, but sealed his place with his pinch-hit grand slam that won the season's second game. Ok, I'll buy that. How about one of the other multiple interchangeable OFs from the Valentine era that you mention...Darryl Hamilton?
  4. Bobby Bo?
  5. Agbayani.
  6. Dawson wore 10, Rusty wore 6 (and Duffy Dyer #5!). Valentine that year had 1 sacrifice hit (Dawson somehow was called on to sacrifice 8 times!). I forgot how good and young the nucleus of that team was: Carter, Cromartie, Valentine, Dawson, and Larry Parrish were all 25 or younger.
  7. Swoboda.
  8. I cannot comprehend how Carlin keeps getting broadcasting jobs. He talks with a girly lisp and he sure as hell aint attractive. Being Francesa's one-time lickspittle should only take you so far. And I am totally with Zvon on the new Beer Money chick.
  9. 25 career homers and two were walkoffs against the Mets.
  10. Jerome Walton?
  11. Richie Allen
  12. Glenallen Hill.
  13. Not-nearly-famous Cub: Dwight Smith
  14. Jim Edmonds
  15. A way-out-there guess: one-time Cub Lloyd McClendon. Maybe I'm just imagining him having a lot of big hits against the Mets as both a Cub and Pirate.
  16. Orlando Cepeda?
  17. Straw and D. Wright? edit: scratch Wright. I missed the 90s clue. Piazza?
  18. Kevin Elster?
  19. Jefferies?
  20. Joel Youngblood?
  21. The 12-year thing should narrow it down, I would imagine. I thought of Straw, but Kent is a good guess.
  22. Seems the 1980s Royals were rich in this regard: Not to veer wildly off topic, but where was this photo of Buddy taken? That's a road uniform, and a rather small grandstand. Somewhere in Florida during Spring Training?
  23. Grey jersey. Not sure of the cap. I think black with the blue bill. And as an example of how long this has been coming, I was reminded that the last time the NL won this, Mike Piazza was the MVP...as a Dodger.
  24. I assume McCann will win the MVP, but Byrd gets Schaefer points for both the defensive play in the 9th, and a great PA in drawing the walk right before McCann's hit.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: He wasn't the "Boss" of baseball, but the Yankees, and he didn't "appear" on Seinfeld. Actually, he did appear as himself on one episode.
